Amazing for what i use it for
I'm constantly using my computer, be it gaming, Mixing, editing videos or general use and for all of that i require a fast CPU. I was making do on a cheap AMD Phenom II 965BE, around £100 to £90, personally it was a great little CPU for the price and i would also recommend that to anyone looking for a great gaming CPU. However i also record gameplay on my PC so i require i beefy CPU, then i have to render out many 1080p video files and for this reason i opted for an i7 over an i5 thanks to the hyper-threading that helps with overall multi-tasking but also the quality of my recording. I have seen a healthy increase in performance overall in all areas over my old CPU, this CPU is triple or near enough triple the price so that's something i expected non the less. You can see the quality of this CPU on my YouTube Channel DeanGetYourWings. This or a 2nd Generation: If you are thinking of upgrading from a i5-2500k or i7-2600K i would personally not recommend it, you'd not get a huge amount of power increase (i believe its 25% over a i7-2700K per clock) so it has the edge but its hard to justify the price for a small gap, if you however like me were upgrading from an old CPU or outdated CPU and you had a reason to require the hyper-threading capabilities then i recommend grabbing a Ivy Bridge CPU and a good mid-range heat sink to combat the extra heat created by the lower nm technology. Heat!: Its well know the Ivy's run hotter and dont clock quite as high. I got the CPU before my cooler arrived and had to try it out using the very, hateful Intel stock cooler. Temps would be 34c to 85c at max. Not comfortable tempretures for myself so i finally got my Noctua ND-H14 now the temps are for more comfortable with lows such as 20c, averages of 29c idle, 42c full load and max i've been able to get it to was 51c under a 24h stress tests and full load (including hyper-threads) also please note this CPU self overclocks to (up to) 3.9GHz. With such a cooler i could easily overclock it t 4.0GHz comfortable, push it to 4.8GHz but i wouldn't go past that threshold. This brings me back to the Sandy's, they overclock higher, seen 2700K's get to 5.0GHz but a 3770K at 4.8GHz is just a bit slower than an 2700K at 5.2GHz so you have to consider that. Overall, im chuffed with this CPU. No problems with it, the iGPU HD4000 is decent, not for gaming though, rather see intel get rid of these iGPU's to allow for better cooling personally but past that 10/10 performance (even keeps up with the 3960/30 in gaming performance so that's a bonus) So in a nutshell, first time PC? get this, upgrading from a low end CPU? get this, however upgrading from a high end Sandy? unless you really want to you dont get much extra bang for your money to what you may already have. For reference here is the PC i used: Monitors: 1) Panasonic 42" 1080p Plasma - Main gaming screen - 1920 x 1080 2) Samsung SyncMaster 21" - Operation monitor (YouTube etc) 1440 x 900 Case: HAF X - 9 Fans - 3x200mm 4x120mm 2x140mm 1x230mm GPU: 1) AMD XFX HD6970 - Overclocked: GPU: 950Mhz - Memory Clock: 1400Mhz CPU: Intel i7-3770K Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz/3.9GHz Heatsink: Noctua NH-D14 RAM: 2 x 4GB - G.Skill Ripjaw X 8GB 1600MHz OS: Windows 7 Ultimate Windows XP - Backup Hard Drives Master Drive - Western Digital 3TB HDD 7200RPM Slave Drive - 500GB Hitachi HDD 7200RPM (Pure FRAPS Drive) Mobo: ASUS P8Z77-V LE PSU: XFX 850w Black Edition Modular The CPU made a brilliant addition to my PC and i love it :) so i highly recommend it to those after raw power!
