Not Your Grandmother's Log Cabin: 40 Projects - New Quilts, Design-Your-Own Options & More

I do like the book and will do at least one quilt from it. I was expecting more variations than the book includes. I do better with quilt books when I go to a bookstore or see one in a quilt shop that I can actually look through to make sure it's what I want. I'm not disappointed as it is a well done book.

Haven't started on quilts but found out where I went wrong on other projects. Great ideas

Awesome, Awesome log cabins! I love amazing colors and optical effects in quilts, and I love all of these log cabins. They're fun, funky and bright, though you could make them in more subdued tones as well and still have a lovely blanket. These are the ones you make and then decide you can't give them away after all! I love this book and Extraordinary Log Cabins as well. I could even just look at these books for fun, as I never get tired of just how amazing these patterns are. Clear instructions, great sewing tips and color suggestions also.

I was disappointed in this book. I realize it's the "log cabin" pattern and that I'm not being very generous. The variation is with a 30/60 degree triangle template creating mostly triangle blocks with the occasional diamond block thrown in — most, but not all of the diamonds were created by pairing two triangles. To my eye, what your getting is some beautiful color ways. The vast majority of the patterns look like giant snowflakes.The color ways and layouts are very beautiful, but even the bright, multi-colored patterns look like snowflakes to me.

While I found this to be mainly 60 degree diamond and triangles (which I prefer not to work with) I redid the pattern with 45 degree and was just as pleased with the results. I find that while most people will follow a pattern, I like to add my own special touches and only use the patterns as a guide line. In saying that, I found this book to be a wonderful working tool.

Hope I'm capable of sewing these beautiful quilts. I'm not the best or most confident piecer, so I'm going to take it slow. Instructions seem comprehensive and easy to understand. The quilts are magnificent! Worth the effort for this beginner.

Not really what I expected. The language of the book could be a little more user friendly but you are forewarned that it is meant for intermediate quilters. Pictures a beautiful and that what lead me to purchase the book in the first place. It's definitely not for someone who wants to make a quick quilt.

Did not like the patterns

there are so many books on log cabin but this one adds a new dimension. All the designs are based on triangle or diamond log cabin and there are plenty of designs to choose from with clear instructions backed up with good diagrams. The designs all use a 60 degree triangular ruler, so most of the designs are based on a six point star, but the technique is clearly adaptable to using a 45 degree ruler for example. A most useful addition to the book shelf.

Don't for the novice, but well written well explained. Only on my first piece of work but will have a go at more.

Nice book lovely pattern but l couldn't understand what sizes to cut a bit confusing perhaps it's to hard for my skill level
