A quirky book with great illustrations & content. My daughter loved it

Brilliant books with an original concept. The biography is well written and ends on a note that makes you want more. The illustrations are beautiful and compliment aspects of the story told in the first part of the book. Printed to a high quality. I've already recommended it to my friends. My only complaint is that it isn't longer!

The media could not be loaded. For anyone interested in the occult. For anyone interested in lore and myths. For anyone wanting a unique book. It is well worth the money. Consistent excellent imagery, well written, thoroughly researched.

It was a very interesting and imaginative book, I enjoyed the letter format, and illustrations greatly. I gave it 3.5 stars.

This shows the rare being - the mermaids , the dragons, the angels , the centaurs and serveril more rase beings. With full detailid bio.

I'm still reading this book but I'm not far off finishing it now.It's written in two parts. The first is a biography of Dr Spencer Black, who was a medical school prodigy in the 1800s, swiftly turning into an enfent terrible as his madness started to take over. The second part is taken from the only known copy of Dr Black's book "The Codex Extinct Animalia", which is a study of mythological beasts such as the Centaur, Mermaid, etc., that Dr Black believed were real and we were descended from.The book is beautifully illustrated throughout. Dr Black was an amazing draughtsman, if sadly insane as time went on. If you have a love of the strange I would recommend this book wholeheartedly. It's worth every penny.

The illustrations in this book are excellent, and are exactly what I wanted from this book. However, the story of Dr S Black is a real let down. It has no resolution, either for him or the various other characters (no spoilers). It all just ends, on a really poor note as well.3 stars as its a gorgeous book, such a disappointing story.

I do love science, whether this is science fiction or a story of someone real, it’s pretty interesting to see the dedication of how someone can envision such creativity
