Flying Eye Books Juniper Mae: Knight of Tykotech City

I finally got my copy of Juniper Mae and am so impressed with this book. To start with, the illustrations are what catch your eye, from the whimsical character design to the color palette that fits each scene and has accents of glowing colors to make the lights pop. The colors are beautiful and vivid, and I’m so happy to see that the artist incorporated her female warriors that are so prominent in her work on Instagram (check out the social media account because those ladies are FIERCE and make you want to Xena Warrior Princess cry). The storytelling is also what makes this book so good. You’re immediately drawn into the imaginary world of Tykotech City and the female protagonist, Juniper Mae. It’s a coming of age story that makes you root for this brave character as she comes into her own. I’m in my mid 30s and thoroughly enjoyed this book and if I had a child (like my mother so often pleads for), I would definitely make this a regular book for night time stories. I cannot wait for the next book of this series! If you’re an artist, you’ll appreciate the aesthetic and style of these illustrations so don’t hesitate and buy this book! If you can’t read, just buy it for the illustrations! They’re that good!

I ordered a copy of Juniper Mae for my son and it's his favorite story! We love to read this creative storyline and imagine what might happen in the next books of the series. We need more books like this, strong girls leading the charge with science and technology. It's inspiring!The illustration is gorgeous. I love looking through the details on each page. There is some charming feature that I didn't notice before every time I read it. Kids, teens, and adults will enjoy this book.

I pre-ordered this book for my 7yo son because I've been an avid follower of Sarah Soh's art for many years. I was so excited when I found out that she was writing a comic series. My son has been hooked.I love that the story centers on a young girl who is introverted, nerdy, and creative (not usually the kinda gal that is seen as heroic or important in storylines) going on a magical adventure to save the world. Can't wait to gift this to all our the children in our lives!
