This did the job for me!
I had an avulsion fracture of my right thumb. The Hospital wanted to put it in plaster, which I felt was excessive, and was glad when they recommended this to me as an alternative in my situation, it not being available from the NHS.Snug, comfortable enough for all day use, and firm enough to immobilise my thumb and protect it from knocks. Easy to adjust and loosen for night-time wear, and easy to clean. I used mine for the best part of six weeks, during which time I worked for an extended period as a sports photographer, carrying a heavy SLR camera and long lenses for hours at a time. I almost felt naked when time came to leave my thumb to its own devices. If your medic agrees, go for this. It's quality.

Very disappointing
Unfortunately I found the brace both uncomfortable and impractical. The thumb velcro kept slipping off as mentioned by other reviewers. The velcro is so strong it is very difficult to release and tugging on it only hurt my wrist and thumb more. The wrist cuff was particularly uncomfortable putting a lot of pressure on my wrist bone no matter how many times I tried to adjust it. Overall very disappointing.

Good support bit uncomfortable
I bought this for a thumb sprain so that I could wash the one that the doctor had given me. It does support the thumb, but it is quite bulky and was a bit uncomfortable on my wrist. The Velcro fastening is quite fierce and not the easiest to manage when you are working with only one hand!

Helpful aid to recovery
I bought this thumb splint along with another different one, to help heal a trigger thumb. It is the only one that I could find online that really does splint the thumb mid-joint and therefore prevent it triggering, much needed at night time when one's body gets up to all sorts of activity whilst asleep! I would highly recommend it as a thumb splint, particularly as it is made of coolprene which does a brilliant job, (as it claims) of keeping the thumb comfortable at an even temperature. (The other splint I bought at the same time is hot and uncomfortable, and doesn't prevent the thumb from triggering as it doesn't give enough support around the top joint.) It is a serious splint with 3 shaped metal inserts which cup around the thumb. All the other ones I found online, including the other purchase, only have one metal strip, and are weak. My only complaint is that the velcro around the wrist is a belt and braces job, which can be challenging to undo with one thumb and a set of teeth!I have worn it (and still am) for several weeks, and am impressed with the performance of the coolprene. (Thumb is getting slowly better, too.)

This is a great fit and you can adjust it to be really tight if you wish. I needed this for a 'Bible bump'! And was using my hand too much so this really helped. Very comfortable despite the necessary restriction

Almost but not quite excellent.
I bought this after spraining my left thumb. It was recommended by a nurse who said it would protect and imobilise my thumb to allow healing. Ok, it does both those things pretty well as it prevents jarring and unnecessary movement, but there just a couple of minor design flaws that irritate and if someone at Oppo were to fix them, it would make this product excellent. Others have picked out these flaws too - the velcro starp at the thumb keeps slipping off and so has to be constantly adjusted and re-positioned - the area around the base of the thumb (the area where it meets the hand) where the swelling can be significant does not have any padding and so the area gets irritated. Anyway, overall this has helped reduce the pain and quickened the healing process. I give it 4/5 due to those little flaws.
