I make waistcoats and needed a way of getting the buttonholes neater - using the seam ripper or embroidery scissors was leaving loose threads no matter how careful I was. This buttonhole cutter has solved that issue - nice clean cuts every time. Quick and easy to use, if the buttonhole needs to be wider, just move the cutter along and re-cut. Chose the Clover brand (rather than one of the cheaper copies) because their quality is reliable.

This is a game changer when making button holes in sewing. It cuts clean through the fabric and it's so precise. Love it.

Brilliant little chisel. Happily cuts its way through at least six layers of strong material with ease. It is very very sharp so definitely keep out of the reach of the cat and certain other members of the family (husband) who may want to "borrow it" Do make sure that you have a cutting mat under your work or you will make a nice slot in your work table.

This isn't exactly what I imagined. I thought that it was shaped to cut the entire buttonhole. Instead it is a flat blade, almost chisel-like. I tried it on my latest garment though and I am pleasantly surprised. It cuts cleanly and easily, all I had to do was cut close to each long edge then using my sharps snip between the 2 cuts. It really cuts out the hassle of slowly cutting along the buttonhole stitches. If you want I think you could get away with using it in the middle to cut a single hole. This will allow a button through okay but I'm just picky and like to have no threads showing.

Works really well, better than using a seam stripper to cut the button hole.

Fab little tool- makes lovely neat button holes.

This is perfect for cutting open buttonholes once you’ve sewn them. It’s petite so you need to use it more than once each time, but this is good because it stops you making any too large accidental cuts.

I brought it for button holes in a velvet waistcoat, it worked so well.

This is the most perfect tool made for cutting button holes...I used to use tiny scissors but this works so much better; it is more like a puncture action and it works superbly. Easier and better than scissors. This tool is not used like I thought...I thought it was a tool that you would use like a razor blade...that you would puncture the fabric with the point, and then pull towards you to cut. But it is not like that...the blade on this is sort of square shaped and you push it down onto the fabric between the threads of the button hole and push it to make the cut. One other point...this tool is extremely SHARP. I have this obnoxious, rambunctious puppy, but please be extremely careful about where you leave it. My puppy is very attracted to all of my sewing tools. She has grabbed pin cushions full of pins that I have had to pull out of her mouth, etc. She goes after anything that has a "handle" on it. If you have any small children, or an obnoxious puppy like mine, be very careful where you leave this tool. The blade on it is extremely sharp, which is why it is so effective in cutting your button holes. There is a vinyl slip cover that goes over it when not in use which I would be sure to keep on at all times when not using it. This is a really great little tool.

This is such a good little tool! I decided to try this after trying to open button holes with a seam ripper. This worked SO much better and the button holes look much neater. My buttons are 5/8 of an inch and this tool was not too big. It could probably open even smaller holes as well. I used this tool along with fray check. I have yet to wash my garment but it doesn’t look like the holes will be prone to fraying. Well worth the money to get this tool.
