Great Aid
Completed the coastal route from Porto in Sep 24 and this little book was a great help. Found myself looking at it every evening with a beer to plan to e next couple of days walking (routes, accommodation, stops, ascents, descents, kms). Would recommend taking with you. Beats looking at a screen!

Great pocket book
Easy to read little pocket book with lots of information needed prior to doing the pilgrimage walk. Looking forward to taking it on the walk. Good individual, maps. Lots of details on maps.

Great but not perfect
A great guidebook, lightweight, comprehensive coverage of all the routes except the unofficial Littoral route - Coastal, Espiritual, Central, decent maps. However there are flaws. Its important to know where taps are on this route, sometimes the map shows them, sometimes it doesn't.Also the map scale is different from page to page, which makes it hard to judge how far things are apart and stops you getting a feel for the distances at a glance. The accommodation is out of date, and so was the online pdf update, so we tended to use this book in combination with an app (Camino Ninja).Town maps are almost useless, missing important road names - tried to navigate across Vigo with the included map and it was impossible, had to rely on my smartphone to find my accommodation which was very low on battery (stressful!). You probably need an app to navigate in and out of large cities which tend to have poor waymarking on the Portuguese Way.No historical info but I didn't need that, you can read Wikipedia. In common with pretty much every Camino guide the example packlists contained loads of unnecessary items that are easily available en route or widely provided for you, such as laundry soap, antibiotic ointment, or items that are only applicable in some seasons (you will not need a fleece in July or woolly socks...) or recommend multiples of items you only need one of like 1-2 shorts, 1-2 long pants, spare pair of footwear. I think if you followed the instructions here you would end up with a pack a couple of kilos heavier than necessary. The sleeping advice seems odd, and again would lead to people taking a heavier than necessary bag, You do not need a 3 season sleeping bag rated to 0C when you are sleeping inside buildings even in January. The blister control info is poor to the point of being harmful. Not having a section on useful websites for finding accommodation and apps for navigation is very remiss when pretty much everyone uses those and they are so helpful. Yet the author thinks carrying a tablet and books to read is a good idea...No advice on which sorts of plugs are necessary to take to charge devices or where you can buy them.I think it should add the Littoral route where appropriate since lots of people want to walk that. The worst mistake is the Portuguese book puts the start of the route in the wrong place! The actual start is the St James church near the Cathedral in Lisbon, not the Se Cathedral itself. Only found that out long after we'd got home!So its not a perfect guidebook, the water point issue was particularly annoying, but it still works, the planning a distance sections are really clearly laid out, and explains a complex route well. This is still the best available guide for the weight conscious Pilgrim and its widely recommended on Camino Portuguese forums as the best guide, especially if you are using it in conjunction with an app and do not need step by step walking instructions. If you want those, buy the heavier and bulkier Cicerone guide.

Good source of information, mapping could be improved.
The Portuguese Camino is very well marked and easy to follow. By contrast, most guidebooks do not provide good maps, possibly a reflection of "the camino will provide mindset".This book is useful for 3 things:1. Information about what facilities are available ahead, for example water or refreshments2. Choices of alternative routes in the 2 or 3 places where these exist3. Getting back onto the camino is you take a wrong turn.It does the first well, the second reasonably and would not be much use for the third. One of the ways it could be improved is to include the same distances as the marker posts, which are frequent and precise.

The perfect guide to carry on the Camino
This guide is light and compact but has all the basic info a pilgrim needs. Maps are clear (clearer than other similar guide, IMO); includes distances and elevations; where to find albergues and places to eat. With this guide it’s very easy to plan your overall itinerary before you start walking, and also to plan for the day (eg where to stop for rests). Highly recommended.
