A gorgeous classic
What a treasure! A timeless story of a boy from Sweden and his pet that’s most endearing. The art is gorgeous! Pelle’s story is loved around here, and asked for over and over.

A tale of the olden days...or is it?
The book tells the story of Pelle, who has a lamb of his own and a suit that is getting too small. Over the course of the book Pelle shears the lamb and then different people in his life help him to card the wool, spin the wool, dye the wool, weave the wool into cloth and finally make a suit out of it.But. Not only does the book teach children, how clothes are made from wool - which by the way would be a great project to do with the children, who are being read this book (get some roving, have the children card it, spin it into yarn and have them weave it onto a small frame to make a coaster or little carpet)...no, the book also shows how Pelle always does something for the ones who help him in return for their help. The big lesson of this book is this: When somebody does something for you, which YOU can't do by yourself - offer them your help with something THEY can't do by themselves in return. Give and take. And this big life lesson is taught in a very child friendly, beautifully illustrated way children will enjoy hearing and seeing over and over.

Classic Children's Story
I remember this story when I was a child! I have been looking for it for years!!! (Couldn't remember the exact title, so had a lot of trouble finding it!) Great story to use as a Social Skills Lesson (how friends/acquaintances help each other). Wonderful "soft" color illustrations. There is a new printing of this book out, but Amazon has a mini version. The mini version would be great for parents or grandparents who can read 1-on-1 with their child (grandchild), but I chose a used copy of this to get a larger version to share with my class! Great Classic - and perfect for any teacher, parent, child!

Wonderful book
This is my favorite Elsa Beskow book and I really wish she had more for this level (2 years) of child. The rest of her books are all more advanced. My 2 year old boy loves this book and it teaches him to be helpful, which I like too.

beautiful, small and loved!
This book is beauftiful! It arrived much smaller than expected but I actually love the size of it the most because it is so much more comfortable to hold for a little toddler. My toddler loves to look at the pictures and it seems to calm him a lot!

a wonderful read
this is just a delightful and beautiful book. I read it to our children and they have read it to their children. I needed a new copy. I like this little format although I also liked the bigger edition. The story is about a boy named Pelle who needs a new suit. He exchanges his work for each step in the process from getting and preparing the fleece to spinning, dying, weaving and tailoring the new suit. The illustrations are just lovely.

Back to barter
It's a pity this charming classic is no longer available in the large original size. It's such a delightful account for children of a boy who gets a new suit of clothes through willingness to trade his services for services he needs, within the close-knit rural community he lives in. A nostalgic picture of farm life in Sweden, and of how a village can raise a resourceful, contributing child. A perfect sit-on-my-lap book to share with a youngster.

Wonderful Book by a Wonderful Author
A favorite book to read to my daughter has become one of the first gifts I gave to my grandchild. I look forward to reading it to him in a year or two.

"Thank you very much for my new suit, little lamb."
This is one of those children's books that could become a family heirloom as it's utterly gorgeous! Doesn't include any of the fairies that often feature in Elsa Beskow's work: this is the more down to earth tale of little Pelle, owner of a lamb, who is growing out of his clothes."The lamb's coat grew longer and longer, but Pelle's coat only grew shorter."So Pelle shears it, and by doing odd jobs for family and friends in return, gets it carded, spun, dyed, woven and made into a new suit.In the process are some lovely images of 19th century Swedish life and home decor (put me in mind of Carl Larsson's lovely pictures of his family.)

Nice little story- recommended
Really lovely story. The book is a mini book which I thought meant abridged, but it just means the book itself is small. It’s like pocket sized but it makes no difference. My children enjoyed it. And I am pleased it’s Montessori aligned.

A classic
This book is so beautiful with classic illustrations and language used. Gives the full process of shearing wool to making a suit in the traditional, hand way with traditional practises, such as carding. My little one loves this book!
