Distinctive style, reminded me of Carle's Caterpillar story
There is a comparison made to Eric Carle, and I think that is justified but certainly not to say that Horacek does not have originality and a voice of his own. I have enjoyed many of the author's books with my first son and look forward to doing it again with my second. This is possibly one of his best - which, like Carle's books, seeks to include learning points alongside a simple but entertaining story for the youngest of children. Here it is days of the week and colours.Goat decides to have a try of some other foods - but ends up rather ill after overindulging in the food of other animals and a few belongings of the farmer's family. After a few days, all is well again... or is it?Very simple text makes this eminently suitable for very young listeners with wonderful full page colour drawings of the farm animals, plain backgrounds that won't distract from the telling. It will raise a giggle as goat even chomps on a pair of pants (from older children, who can also read this for themselves).Loved it, will stand up to repeated readings. With thanks to Walker Books for the sample copy, sent for review purposes.

I can see this amusing story making young children giggle as they follow Goat’s antics
One Saturday morning Goat decided that she’d had enough grass and herbs and wanted to try something new to eat. From the dog’s food, to the farmer’s pants, Goat ate everything she could find. When she had finished eating she started to turn a funny colour, and began to feel very poorly. In fact, she was poorly all week, but did Goat learn her lesson? The Greedy Goat is a wonderful children’s story about a goat who doesn’t care what she eats, as long as it’s not grass or herbs. The book is full of bright, colourful, full page illustrations that are simply stunning. They are very helpful for those that can’t read yet to understand the story fully, without the need for words.I can see this amusing story making young children giggle as they follow Goat’s antics. A book that children will want to read over, and over again.Reviewed by Stacey on Whispering Stories Book Blog*I received a free copy of this book, which I voluntarily reviewed

A great story to be enjoyed by many ages - very similar to the hungry caterpillar layout
This is a funny story about a goat that wants to try some new foods. The storyline reminds me a little bit of the very hungry caterpillar as the goat eats different things each day of the week, but it explains colours instead of numbers.Early Years Teachers - This book would be a lovely book to have in any early years classroom. It is so versatile and can be enjoyed by many ages. It is really easy to engage with and offers a lot. It would be a great book to accompany the very hungry caterpillar story.Themes: colours, days of the week, greed, emotions, trying new things, foods, farm animals.Activity ideas:- Children could make their own book with the same structure e.g. choose their own animals (which may even be their pet) and then describe what the animal ate each day. This could lead onto a challenge of using numbers as awell as colours and days of the week. Maybe as an additional challenge it could be extended across a larger time scale e.g. months.- Children could discuss how the goat would be feeling after eating so much food - what has it done to her body?- Children could discuss how the other animals must have been feeling - were they cross at the goat for being so greedy?- Children could create a map of where the goat went - e.g. draw lines from the dogs kennel to the field. They could then use this to call out directions to the goat as part of a role play.
