Can the fine adjust be unscrewed from the final ball, or is it machined as one piece, please?

Hi Have just examined mine more closely and it looks like the unit is machined as ONE piece. Part of the final clamp body is a blacked aluminium block which can hold 2 types of DTI gauge. I have a few of these stands and they are well made the magnetic base is strong. They are really good value for the money. If you want to modify the end clamp to hold something else.there is some scope to make a custom adaptor that will fit on the clamp module. There is a fine spring adjuster on this final clamp assy also, Hope this helps, regards. Tony

what is the hole size for a guage?

Hi This is a universal dual use indicator clamp. The dovetail on the end is for attaching the finger type clock which has dovetail portions on its external case. The incorporated round hole is 8mm dia (or 5/16th) to take the main plunger portion of a standard dial indicator, which on modern clocks is metric (8mm) Older type (mercer) clocks, the plunger body is 5/16" You can always fit another fitment in there as long as it has an 8mm shaft which will make the clock more adjustable. hope this helps.
