Jim Clark: Tribute to a Champion

Quite Interesting To Learn More But Not Comprehensive
I've had this downloaded for over a year now but thought I'd finally get around to it this weekend of the Hockenheim Grand Prix as it seemed fitting. I've a fabulous print of Jim Clark in his Lotus Cortina and I've only ever heard good things about this driver and have long meant to learn more about him. It's nice it was written by somebody that actually knew him as well. Sadly, he was before my time of catching onto the sport as I only started watching in 1988 and Jim was onto his second championship year in the year I was born. It did make me like him a little less than I'd always thought I did reading this, though. At times I found him surly and rude, not shy as I'd always imagined and thought I'd seen in footage. Some of it was a little confusing as the author hopped around back 'n' forth in time and assumed the reader already knew a lot of stuff this reader didn't. It was also padded out with quite a bit of repetitiveness which became a little tiresome to me.No escaping the fact he was a tremendous driver, though. For me there were many parallels with his life and my first formula 1 hero Ayrton Senna's along with their early deaths, too.I'd no idea how popular he'd been in North America, either. That was a surprise. There WERE some annoying and niggly mistakes in it. A lot of commas weren't used where they would've made it a lot easier to read, he was used in place of the, a spring term mentioned when I'm sure hockey is a winter sport and peculiarly he always used an apostrophe instead of closing speechmarks. Lineage isn't spelt linage, fullstops were totally missed a few times, 1967 was referred to when 1961 was the correct year and shockingly a photo's caption described Clark racing in the 1976 Belgian Grand Prix. Spot that deliberate mistake !! Bushell also morphed into Bushel at one juncture, too, which was also slapdash. It's in no way as comprehensive as other F1 books in my library, notably those by Tom Rubython but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
