Surprisingly good quality pastels for a very low price.
The purchase of this set of 72 pastels was inspired by reading an excellent book on mixed media and by their reasonable price. I use quite a lot of Koh - I - noor products and have been impressed by how well they perform for a low cost, often finding them better than a product from a famous brand, so was reasonably confident that they would be okay. They arrived in perfect condition and nicely packaged nestling in and topped with foam in solid cardboard trays with lids. The arrangement of the sticks is pretty random - it looks like there is a tray with a 24 stick set, plus one with extras that make up a 48 set and another that adds more for the 72 - so you do have to be prepared to spend a while ordering them to your satisfaction.(As I like to separate earth tones and primaries I probably would have done this anyway so wasn't hugely bothered but it is irksome. )I was really impressed with their performance as they laid down smoothly, blended well, were highly pigmented and produced very little dust. They are what I would call a medium soft pastel, softer than the Inscribe/Mungyo type but not as soft as the Unison/Sennelier ones. I didn't have a problem with this as I find very soft pastels make far too much mess in a smallish studio that is primarily for painting and am far too impatient to cover everything with dust sheets before beginning work. I was delighted to find that there was very little colour shift when they were fixed and they dull far less than other brands that I have used - even the more expensive varieties - which was a surprise considering how inexpensive they are. There is a plastic wrapper on each stick that keeps your fingers clean but is a tad fiddly to peel. Picking off at the half moon cuts on the seam sometimes requires a couple of attempts to remove the amount you want and is less easy to remove than a paper wrap. However since these worked out at just over 40p for each 7cm x 1cm diameter stick when I bought them I was happy to put up with the small irritations of the disorganised selection and fiddly wrapper, which I feel were far outweighed by the surprisingly good quality of the pastels and the number of interesting, subtle shades offered. The colour range is well suited to my passion for landscape and cityscape and I am having marvellous fun roughly blocking in the composition with watercolour or acrylic then refining them by applying pastels, which is a world away from the smoothly blended still-lives I was taught to do.If like me, you wanted to experiment with new techniques using pastel without spending a huge amount of money these fit the bill perfectly. They would also be good for anyone who wants to try out pastels as a new medium without the expense and mess of very soft pastels that might put them off the medium completely.

Beautiful soft pastels
A lovely range of colours and very soft and blendable the packaging protects them well but will maybe not stand up to long term usage time will tell on that one and that is the only faint criticism I have, other than that I really recommend them

Decent set of pastels for a beginner
I am just learning about pastels and made the mistake of buying a cheaper 'soft' pastel (chalks?) set on Amazon. That set was enough to put me off even picking up another pastel until I started to research on google. These were recommended on a youtube video and since I am only just starting out I didn't want to spend a fortune on a set so bought these. These pastels did not disappoint me, unlike the cheaper set I had bought these were actually soft and blended nicely and did not leave your hands, paper, clothing, and workspace covered in a thin layer of dust.As a beginner, I recommend these to other beginners who are looking to work with pastels. I'm sure as I learn I will upgrade my set to something better, but for the money, these are excellent to learn with. The only reason I am giving the pastels a 4 and not a 5 star is the box they came in, very flimsy cardboard and to be honest a bit pointless, I have since moved them into other storage.

Greatresources
Lovely colours and blend beautifully. Some lighter colours would be welcome. Would, however, definitely recommend these resources.

Flow and vibrancy
Talk about value for money I've been an artist for 20 something years and these are full on fab without breaking the bank. If you want to experience working with pastels for a reasonable price pick these. Wonderful quality not as pigmented as unison or the other high priced pastels but good enough to get tore right in experience the feel and use of pastels and produce rockin art. I highly recommend to any beginner and also professionals wonderful ease of movement 120 colours!!!! What's to think about.

Surprisingly good
These are closer in quality to Rembrandt than Inscribe/Mungyo and kind of fill the gap between the two, Imho. There's a good colour selection, with tints not found elsewhere to my knowledge, and they lay down smoothly. There's some bright colours but not the neon colours you often get in cheaper pastels but all of the shades are vibrant. For the price (well under 30 gbp for 72 at the time of reviewing) they are a bargain and I would probably pay more if I had to. Iwould suggest that you get them if you're a pastelist as even if you don't make them your main colours they will come in handy and for this price, why not?For beginners get these and some inscribes for the brighter colours and you'll have all you could need.Quite soft but not the softest.

Description misleading
The description is pencil case which suggests pastels come in a case. However this is not the case ( excuse pun) they are in a box with 3 smaller boxes. So if You purchase you will need to further purchase a container to store them in !

Excellent quality snd color selection at a lower cost than most pastels
So, I have bought quite a few brand if pastels, both inexpensive and expensive. Typically, the cheap brands have a lot of filler and are extremely dusty, and there are usually a lot if similar colors. I saw a demo on YouTube of Koh-i-Noor pastels and decided to give them a try, especially since they got a good professional review and yet their price point was low. I was not disappointed! The outside of the box was pretty worn, so I was worried at first, but none of the pastels inside were broken or looked used. The packaging is actually quite good - lightweight but protective. The color selection was even better than the picture I had seen! If I could only take a small set of colors traveling, this would be the one. They are thinner than many pastels, and they are soft but not very dusty. They are somewhere between a Rembrandt and a Unison in terms of softness. They are very highly pigmented and the colors are gorgeous. The only issue is getting the plastic wrapper off. They can be a little crumbly and a few of them broke in multiple places when I tried breaking them in half. If you look closely, the wrapper is tabbed so you can peel it off more easily, but I didn't see that at first.I would highly recommend these pastels to both beginners and experienced pastelists, as long as you are willing to be a little patient with the wrappers. My photos show the pastels fully wrapped and intact, as well as broken into half sticks with one half unwrapped.

Beautiful pigment on the pastelmat
Arrived in good condition, none of the pastels were broken. Did my swatch on pastel mat with corresponding numbers. Looked on website for color chart. Hard to decipher the number on color chart to the number on the pastel wrapper. Pigment is gorgeous, blends well, quite a bit of pigment dust(have to make sure blend into paper).
