My Many Coloured Days

Brown = negative
We adore Dr Seuss books and I was delighted to find this book to help with learning about emotions - however, on reading it, brown is associated with negative emotions “Maybe on some days you feel sort of brown, like a bear; you feel slow and low, low down” - I’m so disappointed brown has negative associations with feeling sad/low/depressed. This is not an association I want to create for my beautiful daughters whose skin is brown - brown is beautiful, cozy and warm and comforting like hot chocolate, strong and enduring like the trees… This book is left sitting in the cupboard as I don’t want to give it to anyone else either!

Great book for helping children describe their feelings
A great book . Bought for my gradaughter who’s 6 and had some medical treatment that was very difficult for her and I wanted a book about our feelings . The rhyming words she can read herself and her 3 year old sister can appreciate it to .Very good for asking “ how are you feeling today ? ‘ ‘ what colour are you today ?’ Lovely pictures that describe different emotions very well , with some fun ones too .They both love it

This is a wonderful book that I used as a circle time stimulus with Reception and Year 1 children to explore feelings. We used it over two sessions; first just to give a feeling a colour then in the next session adding an action to their feeling. The children really enjoyed it.

A great resource to teach young children about emotional health
This made for a great talking point about feelings and how they can come and go but not define our personality with my nursery drama class. I like that there is more variety than my other books about colours and emotions.

Fab book
This is a book about feelings for adults and children alike with stunning paintings. I bought a copy because I was already familiar with it from the past having read my bros one when he was younger and he threw his copy out. It was relevant to a dementia course I'm currently doing. I've never forgotten this book. It will stay with me for life. One of those books for keeps. You will not be disappointed. It has all the rhyme of dr Seuss.

Lovely book.
My daughter and I love reading this book together. Helps her to express her emotions through colours as she has difficulty expressing herself.

Too young for my 5 year old
Hmm. Maybe a little young for my 5 year old. We enjoyed reading it but haven't really gone back to it.
