Pretty good story, but . . .
The author lives in England, so does she not know that all Americans do not have white Anglo Saxon names? Really, all the characters’ last names are Fisher, Logan, Reed, Foster, Miller, King, Anderson, Packer, Webb, etc., etc. The most exotic name is Schmidt. It got hard to tell people apart because the names were so similar.

Murder/Crime/thriller
Odd way to discover this book - whilst staying at Corriemuckloch Farmhouse B&B (near Crief, Scotland), my daughter and I visited with our hostess and mentioned my daughter-in-law is from Iowa. She thought to tell me about this book written by a friend of hers, so when i got home to the States, I ordered it and read it nearly straight through. It's well written and very engaging. Admittedly, the gruesomeness of a murder/mystery/crime is a bit overwhelming for me and the fast pace at the end of the book caused me to set it aside for a few hours so as to disengage! Agriculture is my world (though livestock not grain), so i was drawn in immediately. Highly recommend this book.

Marijuana "addict" brother in 2022?
I'm about halfway through this ok book but I'm having trouble with her views about drugs and "addiction". Many of the people in this book drink to excess but the featured "drug addict" is the lead character's brother who smokes...gasp....pot! He's also referred to as a "junkie". I know it's set in IOWA but when there are a bunch of drunks in the story talking about the pot addict it seems weak.I'll finish the book but since the characters aren't very unique or interesting, I'm not expecting an explosive ending.Well, I finished. Turns a little into medical science fiction in the big reveal. Deaths pile up and most of the "good guys" win. I won't be reading the sequel.Don't expect it to all make sense. It doesn't. btw, I like sci-fi and have no problem with gross stuff or violence but the writing is the disappoint here. I'd give it 2 stars but people don't read 2 star reviews.

A Field of (bad) Dreams
A good murder in a small town mystery that morphs into something more bazaar. While the end is rather extreme, it has interesting science facts to make it more believable. The characterization on the protagonist and the supporting cast were detailed and inventive.

Riley Fisher's first major case
Riley Fisher is a fledgling police Sargant on her first major case. A local woman was foundmurdered in a cornfield. Then another body shows up. Is there a murderer among them inthe small town? Then her job is in jeopardy as the investigation becomes political. Can herteam solve the case?A great debut for the Riley Fisher series and Erin Young's first mystery. The pacing is good, although there is too much exposition near the end of the book to explain everything. All inall a great read. I can't wait for Riley's next case!!

Love the story, hate the binding
The story was great! The physical book, not so much.

Interesting twist on Midwest thriller
I live in Iowa near where this story is set which made me pick this novel. The interesting twist the author took made me love it.. the Lead female detective also made me want to see her appear in more books and I hope this leads to a series.

enjoyable read
Good character development and plot line. Global trade problems, gmos and big agricultural, Ms Young really hit a lot of buttons while delivering an engaging story that kept turning pages. I look forward to the next installment.

Amazing book!
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this. One of the best crime books I've come across. Shared it with my family who also thought it was amazing. Absolutely captivating and brilliantly written.
