Excellent
It collects a number of essential essays on Shakespeare's plays by J. Dollimore, S. Greenblatt, P. Brown, Sinfield from the very enriching perspective of cultural materialism which challenges the division between high and low cultural forms of art, and therefore the supposedly universal truths traditionally assigned by . The Elizabethan and Jacobean texts are related in these essays to their context of production, to the interpretations and reconstructions the Shakesperean texts undergo through time and depending on the institutions of cultural production. The essays in this collection are politically committed. However, this is not a weakness but rather a reaffirmation that in reading and watching Shakespeare or any other artist, no one really is in spite of the alledged attempts to remain so expressed by previous critical approaches.
