EDITED REVIEW: ORIGINAL: Stopped working. Purchased 2 one 16Aug25, the other 09Jun25, 1 stopped working Jul26. Less than one year usage. Would not purchase again. /END ORIGINAL. UPDATED 8/26/26: Two things. Before discarding the non-working unit, while fidgeting with another older unit from another manufacturer, which cleary had corrosion on bat connections, I looked up how to clean, and in so doing discovered general recommendation for irrigation timers to 1. Use highest quality Alkaline bats that are designed for outdoor/high heat - these are Engergizer Ultimate Lithiums. 2. Periodically clean bat leads with water / baking soda paste and then with rubbing alchohol and let completely dry. So I got the bats and cleaned the leads as described and voila - it worked! So now it's back doing it's magic. Then on 8/26, today, Rainpoint Customer Service reached out via email to follow-up and offered a free replacment. So I change my review to 5 as with the updated battery practices, the unit is working, it's easy to program, and I see Rainpoint has world class customer support people like Xian A. -Thank you.

Bought May 2026. Great value for the money. Batteries last a long time. Straightforward to use, barely needed to consult the manual to set it up. I haven’t had to think about watering my plants since setting up my watering schedule. I checked during the watering sessions the first couple of weeks to ensure it worked reliably, and did not have any issues. I would recommend to buy all the recommended parts that go along with the watering timer. I would also recommend to encase it within some sort of housing to protect it from the sun and the rain to ensure greater longevity.

UPDATE: Customer service reached out and stated they “upgraded the circuit board with a protective coating and improved the internal components to enhance durability and reliability.” A replacement was sent out. I purchased two of these units and installed them on April 7. By July 7, one of them had completely failed. One timer was installed under a covered porch and the other was exposed to normal outdoor conditions, so I'm not convinced these are truly built for long-term outdoor use. The first sign of trouble was that the displayed time was incorrect. When I went to reset it, the entire screen went blank and became unreadable. I replaced the batteries even though the battery indicator showed a full charge, but that made no difference. The display remained dead, the timer stopped cycling the valves, and the unit became completely unusable. There were no signs of water intrusion, physical damage, or corrosion. It almost seemed like an internal electronic or circuit board failure. Up until that point, the timer worked exactly as expected and performed very well. It's disappointing because the product worked great while it lasted, but a complete failure after only three months of use is not what I would expect from an outdoor irrigation timer.

My drip irrigation system has been a lifesaver during this hot, DRY summer! The timer was very easy to program and has worked reliably all summer. Having two different zones means that I don't overload (or skimp on) one and can water each section deparately, according to what the plants need. I'm very glad I purchased it!

Update 5/21/2026 - The seller emailed me directly as a result of this review and offered an upgraded version at no charge. I was hesitant at first because I didn't think Amazon sellers were allowed (or able) to contact customers directly, but after I confirmed it was a legitimate message through their official support email, I proceeded with the upgrade. It arrived yesterday and I got it installed with no problems. Raising my rating back to 5 stars, hopefully this unit doesn't randomly reset on me! The new unit has brass bittings, no leaks so far. This sprinkler timer is working well enough. I'd give it 5 stars, but about 2 days after the initial programming it decided to reset itself to factory defaults. Still not sure why. That was about 3 weeks ago and it's been working fine ever since, so hopefully it was just a one-time fluke. Update 4/28/2026 - Device reset itself again yesterday. I hope this doesn't become a regular thing. Update 5/19/2026 - Device reset itself again. Programming the device is easy enough. I like that it's easy to manually disable everything using the dial (without losing schedules), and I also like that I can manually turn on either zone for a set amount of time outside of the schedules. The fittings, despite being plastic, are working just fine for me. No leaks. Worth mentioning I have mine in the shade, so I have no concerns about UV damage over time.

Edit 9/19/26: great company! They reached out to me after leaving this comment (which I rarely do). And they made it right and offered me a replacement with the upgraded brass fitting . I will say, this caught me off guard as people/companies standing by their product has become less and less these days , but for them to do it unprovoked mostly, unheard of, great customer service! This was my second one of these timers, first one lasted approximately 5-6 years, this second one lasted a month and failed the same way, screen malfunctioning and biggest problem, not shutting off when it’s scheduled to and flooding my lawn, I’m not sure of it’s the quality or what, but very disappointing on the second one, if the first one hadn’t lasted as long as it did and the fact I do like the functionality and easy to use features, I would have gave a worse rating .

UPDATE: after posting my review below the company reached out and offered to send me a new model with improved waterproofing. So far the new version appears to be working well although it hasn’t had the new waterproofing tested yet. I will update if it fails again so if this is the last update please assume it continues to work well. I will say it is easier to program and set up than some other models so I would consider purchasing again if this one holds up. Worked great… for just over a month. Purchased and worked perfectly. We had rain for a week so turned it off until that passed. Just went out to turn it back on and… won’t come on. Changed out the batteries and then realized the entire screen and internal components are full of water. Totally fried.

It works quite well. Can leak a bit at times. After 4 months, I had it stop working. Changed the batteries and it still didn’t turn on. After removing the batteries again and twisting the knob around a few times, it is back to working. Hopefully it doesn’t happen again.

Unaffected by rain. The fastest growth I ever saw on the cucumbers, and Morning Glories. “Re”learnt what I thought I knew. This is fun, very productive – AND SO EASY! Finally, this year, completed the seven-zone (so far) fully automated drip irrigation system. Proper watering is the biggest part of the green thumb. This is one of the many timers we got from Amazon. Very well-made plastic and metal components and their assembly. Large easy to read AND UNDERSTAND LCD display, one single knob, and control buttons. Very easy to read manual. I did not need to read it first – read it later to see if I had missed anything. I have both the 1-zone and this 2-zone timer from Rainpoint. Almost identical except the two zones’ two metal outlets here, and one more button on the front to switch between the two zones when programming. Load the batteries on the back, the unit comes alive. Click, click – normal. Turn the dial=round knob=knob to “Set Clock”, set the current time. Rotate knob to accept/set. Turn dial to “Start Time”, set the start time for that zone. Turn knob to accept/set. Move knob to “How Long”, set duration. Choose between hours and minutes from the + or – button. Press OK to move between hours and minutes. Move knob to “How Often” to (set the previous knob setting) and choose how often/frequent you want the same action to be repeated. Press the Ok button to see the Days and Hours options to choose. Turn knob to “ON”, now you are ready to go. The whole process is easier than my description just above. Want to set the second zone now? Choose the same process as above, just press the “Zone” button to choose the second zone in each of the steps as above. At each step, just keep an eye on the LCD display to be sure which of the zones you are programming. Now, the dial selector arrow is pointing at ON. You will see the LCD display show the battery level on the top right side, and the current time and the “NEXT” time the zone will be activated = timer opening up the valve within to let water out from that zone. That’s it! If we had these ten years back, I would not have given up on the whole backyard vegetable lot. No worries, I am already moving forward with the drip irrigation system and the timers in other ways, for example, my expectation of the vegetables output and speed from every plant.

We have been using the water timer now for a week. So far so good. It was easy to set up and turns the water on as programmed. We love the second spot so we can have 2 zones for our irrigation system.

RAINPOINT 2-Zone Sprinkler Timer: This timer is perfect for watering two different areas of your yard. Whether you’re watering lawns that have one section in the sun, with the other section in the shade, or if you wish to water your lawn and garden independently, this 2-zone timer gives you the power to control each zone’s watering amount and frequency independently. There are two sets of instructions included in the box. A quick start guide and a full instruction book. Both offer excellent instructions with pictures, making the setup and operation easy. This sprinkler controller has a large display screen, so it’s easy to see your settings. As you rotate the knob to switch settings, the screen displays the required info, so it’s very easy to follow along and program. Once you set the timer’s clock, you can then program each zone, to turn the water on at a set time, with a set frequency and for a certain amount of time. Both zones can run together, or at different times. This way, you can tailor your watering schedule to the needs of each zone without overwatering. If after you’ve set everything up and you find each zone is getting too much or not enough water, you can easily go back through the settings and make adjustments. You can increase or decrease the watering time and or interval, to fine tune your watering to your yard’s needs. There is also a delay button, so you can pause a watering session on either or both zones, if it happens to be raining. You can also manually turn on either or both zones, if you wish to add extra watering for whatever reason. The timer will then resume it’s normal programming after you rotate the knob to off to stop the manual watering cycle, then back to on, so it will be ready for the next programmed setting. This sprinkler controller has brass fittings on both ends for better connections to your hoses. It comes with a rubber washer with a screen filter for a secure, leak-free connection to your tap. They even include a spare filter washer plus Teflon tape, for drip-free connections. The hoses both thread easily on to each male connection and can also be removed easily. This sprinkler timer is waterproof, so it’s designed to be left outdoors. You can mount it wherever it is convenient for you, either from the tap, or where your two zones split off, if you run a hose from your tap. This is a solid, well made device, that can completely turn the water off when the watering session ends. It won’t waste any of your water by dripping when it should be off. Then, when a watering session begins, this device will turn on either or both zones fully (as programmed by you), with an internal click that opens each valve via battery power. Batteries are not included, so you’ll need to provide two AA batteries for this device to work. If your yard has areas that have different watering needs, this 2-zone controller is ideal for you. Once you setup your hoses and program the timers, you’ll never have to worry about remembering to water your lawn and/or garden again.

I'm quite happy with this item so far! We have one outdoor tap that needs to service both our front and back yards. This device allows us to have one hose going each direction AND have a timer that will accommodate each! Setup of the timer was really intuitive and although there are instructions provided, they weren't really needed for most of the process. The need for two AA batteries (not included) was a bit of a surprise as the product description is lacking, but I had batteries so it was not a big deal. The battery compartment seems quite protected from moisture. Connection to the water supply and hoses was simple, even with our quick connect attachments, but as others have mentioned, there is a lot of plastic. I do fear that the timer body won't handle much wear and tear before one of the necks becomes damaged. Overall, I'm happy with my order and look forward to consistent watering this summer thanks to the help of this device!
