I have had these a while now and they have taken the beating of a beginner and stood up to it. They need to be sharpened after about 45min. cutting on walnut, pecan, ash. More often on hackberry. The shanks measure .600 with a .5" flute on the 5/8". On the 1/2" the shank measures about .445" with a .375" flute. And the 3/8" the shank s .375" with a .223" flute. I don't know, but that seems small to me.

These sharpen easily and cut smoothly!

Excellent gouges; they keep an edge about twice as long and i expect i'll slowly be replacing my other HSS gouges with M2-cryo gouges as they wear out. Getting them to a 40-40 grind took a while but that's to be expected because the steel is that much harder. you'll still have to sharpen periodically depending on how hard the wood is that you're turning but perhaps only half as often. the handles are quite long (relative to the handles on most starter sets) as are the rods so i'm not sure when i'll ever have to replace these but i expect several years down the road.

These tools outperform the Pro-PM tools that were the premium material several years ago. The cryogenic steel holds a better edge longer than the PM tools that outperform standard high speed steel. I like them a lot.

Awesome set of Cryo Woodturning tools! This is what I always wanted: sharp edge to hold the longest. I absolutely recommend!! Easy to sharpen and great comfortable handles!!
