Great, dependable, quiet unit!
This is my second one and it has a few subtle improvements over the one we purchased about 10 years ago. Still uses the same connectors so all my old pads work with it. Still super quiet so you can sleep undisturbed and work on your recovery. The new lid latch does not take as much effort to open but still keeps the lid securely shut so no leaks/spills. We have had zero issues with the old one until the hoses just became brittle and cracked but we have certainly gotten more than our moneys worth out of it over the years so we purchased an new one and so far expect the same performance out of it. Great buy for ice therapy

Works so well when you need to ice!
I borrowed a machine just like this when my left hip was replaced and it worked amazing and felt like heaven. Now I had my right hip done and I bought this same one and icing is easy, convenient, and wonderful. The pump does all the work maintaining the cold temperature on the pad. Great help in recovery.

This is one remarkable machine
The Ossur Cold Rush has been a real blessing for my wife after extensive back surgery. The main things which made her comfortable were ice packs. But they only last so long - certainly not through the night, and they can freeze the skin. My wife also says that ice packs are bulky and uncomfortable to rest on. I thought that there must be something on Amazon which would deliver cool relief over an extended time and not have a bulky pad, and that if there wasn't, I would invent it my self.Enter the Ossur Cold Rush, and our problems were solved! She uses it with the Lumbar pad with great success. I have experimented with various ways of filling it with ice, and found that the best for us was a combination of frozen water bottles, gel ice packs, and ice cubes. Each helps keep things cool in its own way and the combination lasts through the night if the machine is on setting "1" as recommended. She also uses it during the day while sitting at her computer or reading in a recliner. It is not difficult to move from one place to another. We have had no leaks in our first month. The water tubes will collect condensation from the air because they are cold, but this has not been a problem. My ONLY complaint is that the wall-wort power supply has an unneeded ground plug which can make it a little tricky to plug into some locations. The Ossur is very well made, functional, and I expect it to run a long time with a little care: I check the ice packs for leaks every time they are taken out of the machine and throw out any which are bad. I replace the machine water every time and do a quick rinse-off. We are careful not to put strain on the power cord or the pad hose. The hose does disconnect easily from the pad if needed, and changing out to a different pad would be a cinch.Only the smaller Ossur model is design to be used with a battery pack, but I think it is really too small to be useful. I plan on buying a one-amp 12-volt DC cigarette lighter power supply for the car some day which should make it possible to take ours on trips. Also, the next bigger Ossur would be overkill for the home, in my opinion. Finally, how could you pass up getting the Ossur since it is made in ICELAND! I wish I had invented it.

As an RN, I cannot offer any type of recommendation for this device.
As an RN, I know how vital cold therapy is to reduce the swelling and pain one will experience following any type of orthopedic surgery. I’ve worked in the OR to see the unholy ways in which your body is manipulated to accomplish a total joint replacement, which only adds to the post-op pain of the incision. Following my first knee replacement in 2011, I bounced back quickly, which I attributed mainly to a borrowed cold therapy unit. For my recent second knee replacement, I searched to purchase my own unit and what appeared to be the best on the market — this Ossur device. It was horrible.I could not return the Ossur and had to purchase a different manufacturer’s device. The Polar product was a significant improvement, but the total cost outlay for two machines was considerable, as my insurance did not cover either item. The issues:~The unit is awkward, has a handle that does not position completely, and it’s heavy. The heaviness was further compounded by the fact that the weight is not evenly distributed in the unit.~The tubing was very long and heavy. The weight of the tubing pulled on the pad, causing it to require constant repositioning and created increased pain to the surgical site.~The tubing, despite its protective/insulating covering, was very cold to touch and quickly became saturated with condensation. Due to the excessive length of the tubing and subsequent loss of cooling, the ice required surprisingly frequent replacement, even if using the frozen bottles of water rather than ice cubes.~The unit did not come with a cooling pad; one had to be purchased separately.I truly cannot think of a single positive feature of this product and, therefore, cannot offer any degree of recommendation
