Product Description The film biography of one of Mexico's most prominent, iconoclastic painters - Frida Kahlo (Salma Hayek). Having recovered from the crippling effects of polio, Kahlo is lucky to survive a city bus accident. Bed-ridden, she is able to produce many art pieces and, when she is fit again, she presents them to Rivera (Alfred Molina) who takes her under his wing as an artist. But their relationship is no easy ride. .co.uk Review For the first time on Blu-ray: Brilliant colours that bring Frida Kahlo's Mexico City to vibrant life combine with a captivating performance by Salma Hayek to make director Julie Taymor's Frida a fascinating film. Starting and ending with Frida on her deathbed, the film spans the famous painter's life from her teenage years to her death at the young age of 47. From start to finish, Frida is portrayed as a relentlessly energized, self-righteous, headstrong, assertive woman. She had liberal views and a socialist political stance. She was bisexual and promiscuous. She drank and abused painkillers, sang and danced, and fearlessly poured her pain and beauty into her paintings. At the age of 18, Frida was horribly injured in a bus accident. Though she learned to walk again, she lived her life in physical agony, enduring multiple surgeries, and eventually needing a wheelchair. Yet her condition did not stop her from having an exciting, tumultuous life as the wife of famed artist and womaniser Diego Rivera, who mentored her in her own work and encouraged her passions. While Frida's life is the main focus, her work is always present and the action of the film often fades into paintings and vice versa. However, the film only hints at the recognition and worldwide display that her painting received after her death. Taymor has created a lively and dramatically emotive film with Frida, capturing her endearing resiliency with colour, music and, of course, art.

Vibrant
I'm not a big biopic fan, nor into art. Honestly, we watched Coco, the kids movie, and my son thought Frida and her 'giant papaya' was hilarious, so I thought I would give this film a go.There is a real vibrancy in this film, and it is fascinating from the beginning. Hats off to the cast, they are brilliant. Love the colours, the life, the subject. Frida led an incredible life. The film really caught my attention and made me interested in investigating more about this artist. Also, the music is marvellous.

Great film about a great but troubled life
Love the way the film didn't gloss over her difficult life. She certainly had a lot on her plate with her husband who didn't seem to respect the fact that she was a beautiful talented lady with a big heart . Be faithful to me was her only condition. He could never even do that sleeping with his models and then breaking her heart finally before she left him .

replaced immediately
the first DVD stopped working on it's first run. it was replaced immediately. very pleased with customer service.the DVD itself was an excellent story of the life of Frida Kahlo though I would have liked to have seen more of her art, but it was a good story, not to be missed by fans of Frida. I do have a couple of biographical books about Frida that have much more detail in them, so if you are really interested in learning about the life of Frida Kahlo, I would also get one of her biographies.

Wow!
I knew only bits and pieces about Frida Kahlo before watching this film. Now I feel I have a way of approaching her work. A colourful and turbulent life, for sure. I loved the juxtaposition of her paintings and "life"; the surreality was very effective. Loved the pace and colours and music. I very much enjoyed this film.

Salma Hayek is astounding as the artist Frida Kahlo, the film has a great cast and recreates some of Kahlo's paintings in an amazing way, a visually stunning film that really shows the life of this iconic artist, not so much a biopic more the showing of an extraordinary life. Alfred Molina is also fantastic as Diego Rivera the artist's womanizing husband, this film captures a rich history, its inventive and many of Frida's paintings appear through the film, if you love the artist and her amazing work you will love this film.
