Presence Sensor FP2, 60GHz mmWave Radar Wired Motion Sensor

I have bought another one….i liked it so much. Great presence sensor but the reviews that it can detect a heart beat are a little optimistic. 1. It’s finicky to set up so recommend you perform a factory reset after initial plug in to start, then add it to Apple HomeKit. 2. Make sure you have let it set up its AI empty room scan after a few minutes of the room being empty. It works great . I’ve smaller rooms to our American cousins so in the UK I only use about 1/3 of the available zone range. In general it’s fairly immediate but can occasionally take enough seconds to take 2-3 steps into a dark room before a trigger happens. I only experienced ghosts on initial setup and before the AI room scan was completed so in general it’s been fine detecting presence. And in general it does a fine job of not triggering a leaving event until I actually leave But…… I have been able to stay still and empty room event triggered but it is quite hard to do. If for any reason you wanted the presence mode setting to keep a light on in a lounge even if you fell asleep, then this might still turn a light off. I haven’t tested or needed the fall mode or sleep monitoring modes. Regardless of the finicky setup and rare moments of it thinking you are unalive, it does work great and much much better for your home automations under Apple HomeKit than what a Pir sensor can do. 100% recommended.

Takes a bit of setting up to make it work reliably. I have it set up in my garage/office space to automatically turn on all the lights, a room heater etc (via IFTTT) and then turn them all off again when I walk out of the room. When I first set it up, it was detecting motion in the room periodically when nobody was in there - which seems to be a common thing looking at the forums. I spent some time re-going through the setup portion including the bit where you re-calibrate the room for empty and that seems to have helped, it's much better than it was and I rarely see mis-hits going on (IFTTT sends me a msg on my watch when the room goes empty). Overall it does what it says on the tin though, and other than the above, was pretty easy to set up. Fundamentally, it's solving the problem I needed it to (i'm too forgetful to turn things off on my own...) so consequently, it's also saving me money not having heaters running all night in the cold weather :) Aqara's software is also very good too, generally a brand i'm recommending to people now that I speak to having used a few of their products.

I've been using the Aqara Presence Sensor FP2 for a few weeks now and honestly it's on a different level compared to the old PIR motion sensors I used to use. Those basic sensors always leave me sitting in the dark if I don't move enough while reading or watching telly but this thing uses mmWave technology which means it can see me even if I'm just breathing. It's properly clever how it tracks multiple people at once and you can set up different zones in a single room. The setup was a bit fiddly in the app at first because you have to map out your room and define where the furniture is located. I did struggle a bit with some 'ghost' detections where it thought someone was in the room when it was empty but moving the sensor away from a rotating fan fixed that. It's much more sensitive than a standard motion detector so you have to be careful with placement. One of the best bits is that it works as a light sensor too so I can automate my curtains and lights based on how bright it is in the lounge. Since it's mains powered with a USB cable you don't have to worry about batteries dying every few months which is a massive plus for me though it does mean you have a wire trailing down the wall if you don't hide it well. When you compare this to a traditional PIR (Passive Infrared) sensor the pros are obvious as you get way more detail and no 'timeout' when you're still. However the cons are that it's much more expensive and requires a constant power source whereas a PIR can live on a coin battery for a year and is tiny. If you just need a light to pop on in a cupboard stick with a PIR but for a smart living room this FP2 is the way to go. There is also a fall detection feature which is great for peace of mind if you have elderly relatives living with you although I haven't had to rely on that yet thank goodness. It integrates perfectly with my HomeKit setup and the lag is almost non-existent. Overall I'm really chuffed with it despite the slightly steep price tag.

Ok, so many months after my original review (and failure to get this to work) I thought I’d give it another stab today. Reset the fp2 and started over, initially wouldn’t connect to HomeKit (took 3 attempts), then once I’d got past that, the room setup just wouldn’t work properly; the app was showing someone in the room even though it was empty and bizarrely that they’d been in the room for more than 6000 hours! After more resets and failures I thought I’d try my second fp2 in case the first one is actually faulty. HomeKit failure again on initial set up, but once I’d got past that, this one did see the room as empty when it should, however, the celebrations were cut short when I kept going back to the room to test it and sometimes it worked perfectly, sometimes not at all, sometimes the lights would come on as I entered the room but then immediately turn off again (note, this room is tiny, a downstairs bathroom). So these two devices are now destined for the skip that’s currently on my driveway. I really like Aqara products (I have multiple light strips, door sensors etc), but this falls so wide of the mark I can’t believe it’s actually been released in this state. I’ll stick to my Hue motion sensors for now, or will perhaps wait for some alternative brands to release one and see how that compares. Ok, so I bought this and in a rush went to set it up in probably not the best location (it couldn’t detect the whole room, which isn’t large), so I decided I’d take another look at it another time and move it to a more suitable location. I tried this today thinking that there would be an option in the app to relocate it and set up the room again, but I can’t find anything for this anywhere (perhaps it’s buried deep within one of the many menus in the Aqara app?), so I decided to remove the device and reset it and start again, but now it just won’t pair, just fails every time. Might be a very good device if you can get it to work, but for me at the moment it’s just a paper weight. I’ll come back to it another day and if I can get it to work I’ll update my review accordingly, but be warned it certainly not a plug and play device like a lot of other smart home accessories.

one word Awesome. Completely changes everything. Meets and exceeds my expectations. Aqara have produced one hell of a sensor. The Lux sensor alone, is the fastest I’ve ever used. And that alone would be enough reason for me to buy more. I have two of the original FP1 sensors, which I’m currently using and both have been faultless. Once setup properly. But have been slow to detect presence. So still need a additional sensor to speed up motion detection and detect Lux levels. Absolutely not the case with the FP2’s presence sensing and its ability to zone a room. The down sides. The WiFi 2.4ghz only. Which makes it tricky to initially setup if your mesh router can’t split the networks. So if your a sole android user. This could cause a problem. As a IOS user and HomeKit user I had no such problem. But the Aqare iOS app when used with this sensor is extremely slow to display the current position of presence. Which gives the end user the belief that it’s not working as expected. But when you switch over to the android app. Positioning updates of presence update in real time. So obviously a bug with the IOS app. Home assistant. HomeKit integration works perfectly. I was aware that the sensor doesn’t currently work with GH and can’t be exposed to GH via home assistant. But that’s easy to get around with a few helpers and exposing the helpers to GH if needed. I will absolutely be buying more when available

I want to like this product but unfortunately I just can’t. Its does what it says it does it’s a premium presence sensor and has lovely zone detection where you can actually set automations exactly where you are in the room, which is amazing. However as nice as it is, I believe this product should be a beta product since has a lot of false detections and turns out the lights with a delay when entire room is empty. If you only want a simple present sensor I’ll get the fp1e to instead it has much less detections and a lower price, however if you do get the fp2 remember it might be less reliable at times. In the mean time Aqara is actually working on an updated version of this sensor called the fp400 it’s ment to have a better accuracy and detect up to 10 people on a room instead of 5 so if theirs no rush I’d wait and see what that’s going to be like, has it should be released soon since it was in CES 2026. If you do find one on sale (which Amazon frequently does) it is certainly worth trying out and getting used to, since it good money for its premium, and yes despite the criticism it really does detect you fast compared to other sensors and light sensor is super responsive!!!

Very sadly, this experiment was not a success and I've had to return it. Contrary to the many youtubers and the sorts claiming all it's good deeds, the device has simply too much ghosting for it to be useful, and to pay a prime for an unreliable device it's just not worth it. My goal was to set it in my office room to detect my presence so I can switch some lights on/off. As sometimes I'm not moving I was hoping this sensor, contrary to other sensors, would be able to realize I'm still there, just a bit quiet. It does seem to be able to do that, and knows I'm there even if I don't move, problem is that I never seem to disappear from the room, sometimes it does realize I got out of the room, but far too many it gets glitched and considers I'm still there even if I left half an hour ago. Worse, when I come back it thinks someone else got in and now there's two people in a room where there's only me, ie. ghosting happens. It got so bad at a point there were 4 mes in the room and I think I could have taken it to the max 5 eventually. I even tried to reset it, I tried to use the "door icon" to tell it where the door is in hopes it will understand I'm exiting the room. Nothing. I could understand a bit of tweaking around but hours went by with the ghosts still there, I don't understand how it can consider there's a non-moving invisible person at a point for 5-6 hours in a row and still not realize that's a ghost. In all honesty, I understand new tech has it's downsides and I could be ok with it if it was cheaper, but for the price I expect perfection and I got a Beta version of a device which is far too faulty. I'm not into being a Deluxe Beta tester, better wait for this technology to actually work. In the meantime, Samsung's Aeotec partner makes very decent motion sensors that while they can't determine where you are in the room or if you are sitting down/standing, they are 3 times cheaper and if placed strategically (like under a desk pointing towards the chair) you can do wonders with them (so basically, I prefer to get 3 PIRs for the price of this one, those will do). That all said, I was able to check that the Aqara FP2 sensor was capable to approximately follow me across the room, but it didn't seem to be able to know if I was standing/sitting down/laying or anything, it always said I was standing only. I also updated the device's firmware and had it on the wall 2m+ above the floor (in case anyone was doubting). So I feel like many of it's supposed features weren't working and this tech needs lots more of tweaking before being sold as "prime". I am willing to pay for these a prime once they actually work, and I was looking forward to buy a few of them for different areas of the house (I loved the idea of it triggering when I go to bed or wake up in the morning), so I am very disappointed indeed and may need some time before I can trust Aqara again, meanwhile, I won't trust certain youtubers anymore.

I was a little wary about this sensor given the large number of not-so-great reviews. However, I thought I would take the plunge based on the few positive reviews that I have read, for me this seems to have paid off. My use case: I need to determine when people are in my living room so that I can turn on / off the lights/TV/etc accordingly (using Home assistant). I already tried a Shelly Motion 2 and this worked well for people entering the room, but after plunging the wife into darkness while sitting still (and trying to complete an online purchase) I had to disable the "auto OFF" part of my automation. So hence now trying a presence sensor instead of a motion sensor. Getting setup was a bit of a fiddle, I needed to install the Aqara app, then add it to Apple home (apparently not needed if you are an android user), I then setup the sensor using the Aqara app. This seemed OK but then I started to see the dreaded ghosting that I read about in other reviews. I stuck with it and glad I did, but make sure you follow the setup guidance AND perform the following: 1) Update the firmware, this is not obvious (e.g. you wont be prompted), will need to dig around the settings, when done you will notice an update that "addresses ghosting issue". 2) Run the AI calibration (when no one is in the room), this removes any remaining ghosts and, in my case, makes the sensor usable. When done, I ensured the apple home integration was installed in HA (home assistant) I then needed to remove the sensor from apple home (on iPhone), this then allowed it to be discovered by HA. Setup then was simple. I have to say it works a treat and I have gone one step further with my automation, I now have the lights go on and off as a person walks though the living room, then I setup another zone on the Aqara FP2 sensor so that I know when people are sitting down (on the couches), so this allows me to turn on and off the TV/Fire/Fan/Etc accordingly. Note this was achieved with node red and a 1 min cooldown/delay for the lights and then a 15 min cooldown/delay for TV etc (annoying if nipping out to the loo and then having to turn the telly and channel back on). Wife finds it acceptable, moved the old shelly motion to the loo (she loves that) and got permission to get another Aqara FP2 for the kitchen. Happy days 😊

Je suis très satisfait de l’Aqara FP2, notamment grâce à son excellente intégration avec Home Assistant via HomeKit. La configuration est simple et les zones de détection définies dans l’application Aqara fonctionnent de manière fluide pour détecter l’occupation. Le capteur est très précis, et il s’intègre parfaitement dans des projets domotiques avancés. Cependant, il y a quelques points à améliorer. Par exemple, il n’est pas possible de récupérer le nombre exact de personnes occupant une zone, ce qui pourrait être une fonctionnalité utile pour optimiser les automatisations basées sur la présence multiple. En outre, il est important de noter que ce capteur nécessite une alimentation continue, ce qui peut parfois rendre son intégration plus complexe si l’on souhaite éviter les câbles apparents. C’est un point à prendre en considération lors de l’installation, notamment dans les espaces où l’esthétique est importante. Aussi, les différents modes de détection (détection classique, détection de chute, et analyse sommeil) ne sont pas combinables et fonctionnent séparément. Bien que chaque mode soit efficace dans son propre contexte, pouvoir les utiliser simultanément serait un réel avantage. Malgré ces quelques limitations, c’est un excellent produit pour ceux qui recherchent une solution avancée de détection de présence et d’occupation. Je recommande vivement cet appareil pour sa fiabilité et son efficacité, surtout pour les utilisateurs avancés en domotique.

Ik ga deze melder gebruiken om enkele ruimtes die met elkaar verbonden zijn in één keer goed te in kaart te brengen (met een Aqara hub) en zo de verlichting slim te kunnen schakelen. Ben benieuwd of dit goed gaat lukken maar na het zien van wat Youtube videos zal ik probleemloos moeten gaan. Mocht het toch niet helemaal gaan zoals ik wil dan is het een optie om eventueel nog een te bestellen en die toe te voegen.

Habe den Sensor seit fast einem Jahr im Einsatz und kann nur sagen: Der Aqara FP2 ist ein fantastisches Gerät, das meinen Smart-Home-Alltag auf ein komplett neues Level gebracht hat. Ich habe ihn in HomeAssistant integriert und steuere meine Automatisierungen via NodeRed. Damit steuere ich nicht nur die Beleuchtung, sondern auch die Monitore meines PCs und den Fernseher. Die korrekte Positionierung des Sensors ist hierbei entscheidend, daher sollte man sich etwas Zeit nehmen, um den perfekten Platz zu finden. Hat man diesen einmal gefunden, funktioniert der Sensor tadellos. Bei mir gibt es keinerlei Ghosting oder falsche Erkennungen. Die Zonen habe ich in der Aqara-App eingerichtet und nutze sie dann weiter in HomeAssistant und NodeRed. Der Sensor bietet vielfältige Anwendungsmöglichkeiten. Hier ein paar Beispiele, wie ich ihn verwende: Wenn es draußen dunkel wird, folgen mir meine Lichter automatisch durch die Wohnung. Früher habe ich das mit Bewegungsmeldern realisiert, die allerdings deutlich langsamer und fehleranfälliger waren als der FP2. Dieser reagiert fast instant. Wenn ich einen Raum betrete, gehen die Lichter an, und sobald ich den Raum verlasse, schalten sie sich wieder aus. Mein Fernseher pausiert, sobald ich den Sofabereich verlasse, und spielt weiter, wenn ich mich wieder hinsetze. Ich verpasse nichts, selbst wenn ich mir etwas zu trinken hole, und muss dabei nicht einmal die Fernbedienung anfassen. Ähnlich funktioniert es mit meinen PC-Monitoren: Verlasse ich die Schreibtisch-Area länger als zwei Minuten, gehen sie in den Ruhezustand und schalten sich wieder ein, sobald ich den Schreibtisch betrete. Das funktioniert so gut, dass sie noch während ich mich in meinen Stuhl setze, wieder verfügbar sind. Zumindest in meiner Konfiguration ist der Sensor extrem zuverlässig und macht mein Leben deutlich komfortabler. Selbst bei Besuch kommt er nicht durcheinander. Die Kombination aus präzisen Zonen, schneller Reaktionszeit und reibungsloser Integration in HomeAssistant macht ihn für mich mittlerweile unverzichtbar. Fände es für zukünftige Modelle noch schön, wenn man die Möglichkeit hätte, den Sensor direkt via LAN ins Netzwerk zu bringen. Aber dank Ubiquity APs konnte ich trotz WLAN noch keinen Verbindungsabbruch oder ähnliches feststellen.

エリアごとには人を探知してくれるので、細かく照明や、エアコンなどの動作を指定できます。 例えば、ソファに座ったときにソファ横の照明をつくように設定することも出来ます。 元々は、赤外線の探知機能を持つデバイスを使っていましたが、赤外線の場合、動いてないと人を探知できないのですが、こちらのデバイスの場合は、動いてなくても探知してくれるので、すごく便利です。 スマートホームの構築を検討されているのであれば、是非試してもらいたい商品です。

Questo sensore è straordinario ma vedo che da molti non è apprezzato, a mio parere i motivi per cui non va bene per alcuni sono molteplici e la gran parte riconducibili ad una scorretta configurazione di app e posizione fisica del sensore. Partiamo dall'app, offre molte opzioni come creare zone che sono esposte in HomeKit come sensori separati (e quindi utilizzabili per ogni genere di automazione che ci viene in mente), impostare la distanza di rilevamento, aree di interferenza ed angoli. Queste ultime due cose sono da settore molto bene, io ci ho messo un po' per capire quale fosse la configurazione migliore, ma è anche possibile salvarne più di una per fare delle prove, anche se il tutto non è così intuitivo al primo utilizzo. Nonostante ciò io sono riuscito a controllare l'illuminazione in automatico, con tanto di verifica della luce presente in stanza usando i dati del sensore lux integrato; ovviamente è configurando le varie automazioni in HomeKit che si fa la vera "magia". Ho anche creato altre automazioni per mettere in pausa la TV se non c'è nessuno sul divano o far suonare l'allarme se sono via ed entra qualcuno in casa; l'unico limite quindi sono fantasia e pazienza. Veniamo infine alla posizione del sensore. Aqara consiglia di porlo ad una altezza da terra compresa fra 1,40 e 1,80 metri e in effetti ho provato a porlo più in alto e veramente non ne azzecca una, ma se lo si pone senza grossi ostacoli adiacenti come muri od oggetti ed alla altezza consigliata va benissimo. Unici problemi reali che vedo sono: - l'impossibilità di disattivarlo temporaneamente senza doverlo scollegare fisicamente dall'USB, cosa che sarebbe comoda in certe situazioni come quando si fanno le pulizie o se si hanno ospiti e si vogliono tenere tutte le luci accese, indipendentemente dalla presenza nell stanza; - falsi positivi con gli animali, ad esempio se il gatto salta sul divano o sulla tavola a volte rileva la presenza, ma io ho risolto facendo sì che le automazioni HomeKit partano solo se sono in casa... quindi è un problema minore ma che andrebbe sistemato con degli aggiornamenti software futuri.
