The best book I read in 2023
There are some books whose stories remain with you for a very long time and then some books that get encrypted, making you learn astonishing new things, and unlearn even more. This book is of the latter type. I loved every single bit of this book, every piece of information and evidence from history, and I am amazed how we as humans have spent an eternity and still going on and on about some trivial things.Patriarchy has not some definite origin, it didn’t sprout out of anything one day and took over the world, rather it was a gradual process that made its way so languidly around the human civilization that it was taking us all in and we didn’t care much until we did. Historians, anthropologists, archaeologist, research scholars, sociologists, and feminists have dedicated their whole lives to getting to the point of how & when this patriarchal transition to humankind occur. It is not that patrilocal society formed without any resistance; neither is it true that only we as in the current generation are fighting against patriarchy. There was always resistance, in the 60s, among the tribal communities, and also from men. Humans are neither culprits nor victims, the real culprits are capitalization, industrialization, wars, violence, religion, and slavery and the real victims are love, empathy, care, and liberty.

Great historical perspective
Loved the information and voice of the author. Seemed a bit disjointed and meandering, but still a good read. All men should read this book.

An important work
The author provides a well-documented account of how societies screw themselves up by trying to keep women down.

The copy was partially print :(
The copy i received was wrongly printed - it started with pages 259-305 and jumped into the second chapter. It lack the introductory pages (title etc. ) and especially the first chapter!I look forward to receiving a proper print version as I am so looking forward to reading Angela Saini latest work !

Powerful and insightful
A fantastic read. Saini’s book are always incredibly well researched, nuanced and thoughtful and this is no different. She never shies away from complexity and you are always left thinking about what she’s has said for days.

The long and convoluted history of the patriarchy
Many interesting insights into different cultures and the history of why and how men came to rule, albeit not as often as we think. Educational and thought provoking. I learnt a lot.
