Mission Library or Child's Shelf-Worthy
Building a library of great missionary stories for grade school kids on up so I was excited to come across this gem. The chapter read style is beyond the youngest of readers, but does well for older elementary and right up to adults. There aren't any graphics, but the writing style is easy read. Well made book and nice size font and page set up. Story content is thorough spanning Amy Carmichael's life, but isn't an in depth bio. Principles and talking points are easily noted within. It is an engaging read though not sensational.Nice add that I can recommend.

Great Intro to Christian Biography and Springboard to Further Reading
This is a great series that can be enjoyed by young children and adults. I used them as part of the training for a short term missions campaign. Each of the fourteen team members read a different biography in this series and then reported to the rest of the team. It was reminder that the training topics we were learning were relevant and lived out by the faithful and fruitful missionaries introduced by this series of biographies. For many of the team this was their first introduction to reading Christian biography and they loved it!Positives of this series:1) Great introductory overviews of the lives and ministries of the individuals.2) Basic reading level for an increasingly illiterate culture3) Short enough to be read quickly in a culture with an increasingly short attention span4) Available in Kindle and audio book for the technologically inclined5) Well written and holds your attention without being exaggerated and exploitative6) Chapters are short and can easily be read to children at bedtime or by adults on lunch breaksNegatives of this series:1) Due to their brevity and target audience the series does not deal with the more negative aspects of an individual's struggles with sin and the weaknesses in their personality as sinners saved by grace.2) Does not come across as hagiography (so idealizing the person that it borders on idolatry) but these introductions are not the place to get the full picture of these godly but imperfect champions for God. Instead they are great springboards to more extensive biographies that deal with the fuller picture of these heroic but very human Christ followers.

Rescuer of precious gems
This is such a good story of a lady that loved the Lord with all her heart. Therefore she loved the ones Jesus had died to save. These little ones are the ones God had sent her to reach for Him. She was a woman of great faith which was used greatly by God. She learned very young to rely upon the Lord alone all Christians should take time to read this inspiring story.

Wonderful
What an amazing story of what God can do through a person when they say yes to Him. Amy had such a beautiful heart for others. Truly inspiring and she is no doubt a heroine! There were many parts that moved me to tears and even some miraculous stories of escape that sound just like the Book of Acts. Thank you Amy for being an inspiration and for a life well lived for the Savior. This woman wholeheartedly poured out her life for others.

Very informative.
My daughter need to do a Christian biography for a book report. She chose this book. I never knew much about Amy Carmichael and her mission trips so this was an informational story. We will be reading more of these books in our house hold for sure.

This book is great used quality
I bought this digitally. My daughter was going to read it for school and then do a book report on it. However, my son broke my Kindle before that could happen. Since she was about 1/4-1/2 through the book, I decided to buy the paperback version. It arrived very quickly and didn’t cost that much. I’m happy with my purchase.

Inspiring book
I rated this a 5 star book because it motivated me to seek God and ask for souls to be saved.Just last Sunday, I was able to help 6 people come to Jesus with my young kids while sledding.Amy's love for the lost, regardless the cost and the discomfort, is encouraging.I am amazed by her and love this book!My daughter actually gets to take a test on the book in school through our ARbook program! It is above her reading level, but they allow us to read the book to her in cases like that. I love that she gets to hear about Amy and the "shawlies" in Ireland, the people in Japan, and the culture in India!

Amy Carmichael is wonderful
I'm in the fourth grade and read a lot of these books. They are very interesting and once I start reading I can not put it down! Amy Carmichael was a very wonderful woman. She started the Starry Cluster, a group of women who spread the gospel in India. Amy made a home for Christian Indian girls. This book was one of my favorites in this book series. I give this 5 stars!!!

Christian Hero: Amy Carmichael
I am really loving these Christian Heroes books which are so beautifully and sensitively written, and, once again, I felt I was there in Dohnavur in the sunshine and dusty heat with Amy.Amy sounds to have been such a loving, generous, kind and caring person who, even as a very young lady, began meetings for different groups of desperate people, both when she was in Northern Ireland and in England. Her hopes of serving Jesus in China were dashed due to her health having suffered badly when she was living in english slums helping impoverished women; and even an attempt to serve in Japan was cut short for the same reason.Following her return to England to be beside her adopted father, Robert Wilson, in his great health need, she responded to a request to go to work in a mission hospital in the pleasant climate of Bangalore, South India, which country she would never leave.Women and children turned to Amy, and little girls were given to her, and rescued, such that before long, she was mother to over 100 girls. Then boys began to be sent, and she soon had 80 of them, too.At age 63, a terrible fall caused Amy to be mainly incapacitated and bed-ridden for the remaining 20 years of her life, but this did not prevent her from continuing in the leadership of her family from her bed, regardless. This is a wonderful testimony of a precious life dedicated to lovingly serving Jesus and the suffering people in India, which I shall look forward to re-reading again and again.

A little slow to get started
Well I think it's great, but it begins with a lot of detail about Amy Carmichael's childhood and my 8 year old superstar reader gave up quickly as she said it was boring.

Encouraging Girls to make a difference
My daughter says: I like the way she had a big huge family; the way all the people were getting to know Jesus.I like the way she decided to care about what God cared about rather than what people thought of her, and to count on God keeping her safe. It's a great book for children or adults, but especially vision giving for Girls.
