If charcoal were a car, this would be the Rolls Royce of charcoal
I probably cook with charcoal 2-3 times per week and I am fairly new to buying my charcoal online, so far I have picked it up at the local supermarket or wholesaler.1. PriceNothing can beat the price if you happen to have a local wholesaler of charcoal. But I have found that Amazon's pricing is very competitive compared to supermarkets, home centers etc. Add to that that it is completely hassle free - you order it, two days later you have it sitting in your garage, I must say for me it's worth the extra money. Time saved, car clean... Happy Wife!2. QualityI want to break down the quality point into three parts - size, burning, smoke/flavor.Size - I must say I read that this is Premium Charcoal and that it was supposed to be big pieces, but which charcoal manufacturer doesn't claim that. But oh was I in for a surprise. Seriously the entire bag is full of larger then fist size pieces, I put 4-5 pieces into my chimney starter and lit it with vegetable oil soaked kitchen paper and then broke down the pieces once fully lit in my grill.Burning - it lit to my surprise without any sparks. I had dealt with South American charcoal before so was expecting sparks flying everywhere but surprisingly there were no sparks whatsoever. It just lit without a fuss and the 4 big pieces of charcoal I used lasted me for what i was cooking, a couple of steaks, some burgers, corn, chicken etc - I could have kept going but run out of food to grill.Smoke/Flavor - I recently had made the bad experience of cooking with Mesquite Charcoal, I really didn't like that flavor. I prefer a subtle, oaky/woody flavor that is not too overwhelming. This was right up my ally, actually I was standing with my son next to the grill enjoying the smoke and taking it in, waiting for the food to get ready. It was perfectly delicious. So in conclusion, I am actually back here on Amazon to order me some more bags. I really like this and want to have some stock over the holidays. I can only recommend it. Great product!

Slow and low.....
We use our BigGreenEgg for all grilling and have tried 3 other brands.BGE = dirty and small pieces. Eh.Rookwood = faster light and higher heat. Best for quick cooks and pizza.Weekend Warrior Jakes Blend = Great charcoal but the pieces are smaller than Fogo.Fogo is a great all round charcoal.Pros: Large lump means you get consistent, low temp burns. I have smoked for 12 hrs and still had enough for a regular weekday cook.Cons: It takes a bit longer to light and takes much longer to get to high temp but will stay clean the whole cook.

and I was able to light it easily. I am very satisfied with this purchase
The bag is huge, the pieces are large, and I was able to light it easily. I am very satisfied with this purchase. I'm used to using rinky dinky little charcoal pieces, so you can imagine my surprise when I opened the bad and pulled out an entire piece of a tree branch! The charcoal imparts a nice flavor as well, it seemed more subtle than the other charcoal I've used.

For those of the hardwood charcoal persuasion
I know this is a religious statement, but hardwood charcoal gives the best result for grilling. It burns at an extremely high temperature and gives off a nice smokey flavor. It is great for cooking meat, fish, vegetables and even some fruits. I tried using an infrared thermometer to measure the temperature, but it maxed out at 800F.This charcoal comes in a huge bag and has a lot of large chunks. I keep an old hammer near the grill for breaking up some of the bigger pieces. They are all lovely charcoal, all the way through. Fogo seems to have fewer little charcoal bits than other suppliers which is nice since I get my charcoal shipped by Amazon which means a lot of little charcoal chips when I've ordered other brands.

Happy Big Green Egg owner!
I've been waiting to post a review because I wanted to make sure I was truly happy with the product and taste of the food. Well... The results are in and they're all positive. I own a big green egg and I was nervous that this deal might be too good to be true and I worried that this charcoal might change the flavor of my food. To date, I have grilled/smoked with this charcoal about 2 dozen times and the food tastes the same. I was using the big green egg brand charcoal and thought I'd give this a shot because of the value. The chunks are bigger... MUCH BIGGER and they last longer. I'm very happy!!
