One of the Best 35mm Rangefinder Cameras on the Market.
The Voigtlander R4M is a great 35mm Rangefinder Camera that should still be in production. In 2017, it's rare that there is still a manual 35mm Rangefinder out there in the world and not as costly as a Leica or a Zeiss Ikon. The R4M is easy to operate and is solid as a tank. That being said, it has some weight/heft to it due to the fact that the Voigtlander R4M is made with metal parts. Even the shutter is metal. One thing that Leica was never able to do or ever did was to have various wide angle frame lines in the viewfinder. With the selector switch on the top of the camera to change the viewfinder lines, there is no need to use viewfinders that need to be attached to the camera's hot shoe/flash attachment. This is great because the attachable viewfinders are not cheap. Anyway, the R4M is pretty quiet in its operation (despite what some reviews state). I have used the Voigtlander 21mm, 25mm, 28mm, and the 35mm lenses with this camera and have they have produced sharp images each and every time. I prefer to use the Voigtlander 21mm lens with the R4M due to the fact that the frame lines pretty much extend to the far edges of the camera's viewfinder, more space to place subjects in the frame or to show more space depending on what you're taking a picture of. Personally, I'd rather spend $1,200 to $1,500 on a camera body and lens than $4,500 on just a camera body and then another $3,500 on a lens. Not trying to slam Leica and Zeiss Ikon but, for me, it's not that serious. These Bessa R4M, R2M, R3M, R4A, R2A, & R3A 35mm Rangefinder cameras have been building up a "buzz" in the Photography community and a lot of great things have been said about them. Reading reviews, holding the camera in my hand, and actually using it with a "test" roll of film and viewing the images produced on film convinced me to buy one. Seeing that I have Voigtlander 21mm, 25mm, 28mm, & 35mm lenses, I'm looking to get another R4M soon. I've got a great system, just need another body to go with it and I'm good to go. I'm a Street Photographer, so the R4M is perfect for me. Using the R4M with a rapid winder makes this camera a joy to use. I HIGHLY recommend purchasing this camera while supplies last.
