Liquorice (English) or Licorice (American English) - Botanical name Glycyrrhiza glabra. The liquorice plant is found in southern Europe and parts of Asia, such as India. It has anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial properties that prevent acne and also helps to fade scars. Liquorice is widely used in lotions and moisturisers as it inhibits the production of melanin in the skin. It is an excellent cleanser, softener and exfoliator for the face and body. Directions for face pack 1: Mix ½- 1 tablespoon of Liquorice powder, 1 teaspoon of honey and enough milk to make a paste. Apply the paste to your cleansed and damp face. Leave for 20 minutes. Wash off the paste with lukewarm to cold water. For best results use 1-2 times a week. Directions for face pack 2: Mix 1 teaspoon of Liquorice powder, 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel, 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of vitamin E oil to a paste with a gel-like consistency. Apply and massage the paste in an upward direction to you cleansed and damp face and neck for 5 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm to cold water. For best results use for 10 consecutive days or 10 alternate days. Direction for a scrub: Mix 2 tablespoons white sugar, 1 tablespoon of Liquorice powder, 1 tablespoon of coconut or olive oil, 1 tablespoon of freshly ground orange peel or readymade orange peel powder. Apply to skin and scrub with a wet cotton pad or any soft cloth in a circular motion for 2-3 minutes and wash off in cool water. For best results use 1-2 times a week. You can also use cocoa or coffee powder with it to make a good face and body mask.
