A reminder that following Jesus Christ is often costly and is always worth any price to be paid.
I chose this book for historical content and to see how and who has given there all for the sake of the Gospel. It has certainly awakened greater appreciation for those who have stood up for Jesus no matter what the cost but also reminded me of the struggle the church has gone through to stay the course over the centuries. This book reminds us that we must not drop our guard and allow false teachers to pervert the Gospel, nor should we condone them today in order to avoid public condemnation in a world that propagates " as long as you believe something about "Jesus", or attend any church , or have religion that focuses on a god , with the idea we are all in the same boat!

Robert Morgan helps us put modern-day events in perspective by looking at key moments in church history
I truly believe George Santayana’s maxim about learning from history, so that we don’t have to repeat its painful lessons. “On This Day: 365 Amazing and Inspiring Stories about Saints, Martyrs and Heroes” by Robert Morgan not only helped me learn history, but see that history through a biblical lens. Each day of the year Robert Morgan will introduce you to someone who played a key part in church history. Some of the names will be well-known to you, and some of them will be brand new; some of the stories will make you smile, and some will break your heart. But all of the stories reinforced two major themes for me—(1) All of history is God’s story, and (2) God uses ordinary people to accomplish His extraordinary purpose. Each day’s entry is short enough that you can easily add it to your daily schedule. If you are a teacher or a parent, these stories would be a great way to talk about current events in light of what God has already done in past history. Either by yourself or with others, you will gain a greater appreciation for God and the gifts He gives to men and women.

Standing on the Shoulders of Giants
This is a great little book to add to your devotional life. I read it 2-5 times per week and sometimes go through several stories in one sitting. Each day is an easy-to-read summary of the life of someone who gave their all for maker. They are 3-4 pages long. If anything, the stories are sometimes too short. Oftentimes I find myself going online to research the person, or their time in history, in a bit more detail. It's a small and simple reminder of the shoulders that we stand on and the many sacrifices that were selflessly made so we can enjoy the life we have been given. The little book also helps me to see how small many of my struggles - at work, at home or wherever - truly are.

FASCINATING SHORT STORIES FOR LEARNING AND SHARING
Be assured, any book by this author will be a winner! This one can be read daily or at random. The short stories encompass the lives of 365 Christians over the past two thousand years. There are saints, martyrs, heroes - prepare to be amazed with every page.Robert Morgan says in the preface: "Christian history provides humanity's most riveting storehouse of adventures. Its menagerie of characters, both saintly and eccentric is the most colorful host of men and women ever assembled on one stage."I love the book, all of the stories, and especially the Bible verse at the end of each page. What research! What a great idea for the younger generation who need a "firm foundation" for our faith. An index is very helpful - this author thinks of everything! Those to whom I have gifted this book thank me over and over. Read the stories out loud - discuss them with friends - all ages, all faiths can appreciate an overview of how and why Christianity continues to be practiced all over the earth. 365 stories are not enough, of course.I recommend this book with no reservations. Wake up and be surprised. Thanks for reading my review and thanks to Robert J. Morgan for all his inspiring books.

An absolute must read for every Christian!
This is by far my most favorite devotional of all time! As an avid Christian devotional reader as well as Author of a devotional myself, "Extraordinary Hope", I can appreciate the time in research to find all the interesting stories about incredible people. "My people perish for their lack of knowledge" as the scripture says and if we only knew the incredible history behind our faith, we would all be living extraordinary Christian lives bringing many into God's kingdom. I am forever grateful for Robert Morgan writing this book and gifting us with it. I will be gifting this book again and again.

A great bed-time read!
Sad I know, but I genuinely look forward to getting into bed and reading that day's snippet from church history using this book. It's brilliant. Each day's page has a 3min read from history, and a verse or 2 at the bottom of the page. I wouldn't call it a devotional book, but more a very interesting book to have by your bed lamp. Enjoy!
