Second World War (See Inside) (Usborne See Inside)

Good book, tough subject but well-explained
This book provides a very good, highly readable and understandable overview on an incredibly complex subject. Ask any adult about the causes of WWII and you’ll get some vague generalities. This book summarises the key events, the main actors and puts the whole drama in a context that is digestible for younger readers. But even as an adult with quite some background on the subject, I must say that I quite enjoyed the guided reading sessions for which we used this book.As always these Young Reader books are very well presented. It comes in a hard cover format with a page finder ribbon and is filled with colourful illustrations, photographs from the age and clear graphs. Our 9-year old daughter considers herself a World War 2 expert. Which is fair enough, though she only read the Anne Frank and Adolf Hitler famous Lives books from this series. Yet it has given her a decent understanding and perhaps indeed she is a bit more knowledgable about the subject than most of the children of her age. Also because over the years we’ve visited quite few locations and museums related to the conflict. So the book was very welcome, and it is just helpful to have a proper account of the topic. The fact that these books are of good quality and come will ensure that they will be passed on at some stage to the owner’s little brother. He is is only six years old, but for whatever reason he is actually obsessed with military stuff and WW2 - therefore he was a little upset that his big sis got such a nice book with interesting illustrations about one of his favourite topics.

Great for young war enthusiasts
I bought this for my 9 yr old son who is doing WW2 as his current topic at school. It has proved very useful for him to check facts, and he has also found it really easy to read, as it is laid out in such a way that makes you want to continue reading, and therefore learning. It is not too wordy, which can be off putting. Great book at a great price.

I bought this for my godson and he loves it. He’s been learning about the war at school and I thought that this would help. He really rates it.

Lovely illustrations and easy understandings for a younger child.
Brought for my 7 year old 'war obsessed' son. Great illustrations, written well for his ability to understand- all that is left is for me to brush up on my knowledge to answer all of his questions!

Exceptional Book
Bought for my 8 year old grandson who is totally wrapped up with anything to do with WW1 and WW2. He has several of the flap books on other subjects but this is the one that attracts him the most. The flaps are a good source of anticipation whilst reading through the book. Very good book. Would definitely recommend.

Informative & Fun!
Kiddo loves all things WWII and this pop-up book has a lot to go through. He enjoys the pop-ups as well as all of the detailed history included in the text. There's a lot to go through and certainly not for smaller kids but quiet well made.

Wonderful book for age level
Bought for a 11 year old who lives history. How unusual to find a lift the flap book that isn’t childish. Wonderful illustrations. Lots if fun and interesting facts. He loves this.

Very age appropriate content
My 6 year old has been asking SO many questions about WW2 since Remembrance Day in November. I could barely answer them because I didn’t know myself many of the issues. This was a great book for us to go through together. It didn’t glorify the weapons either in the pictures and had age appropriate content. I I’ll certainly get another usbourne flip book in the futureThey are the best.

Lift-the-Flap for Older Kids
I love the Usborne “See Inside” series. I think peeking under the flaps is a great way to keep kids engaged in a book. My 10-year-old and I read these books together.
