Evolution: The Story of Life on Earth

This book is spot-on. Easily on par with the British "What's the Big Idea?" series by John Gribbon. This book takes difficult science and makes it easy to understand for elementary-aged children or even the reluctant middle schooler /Jr High student who finds the subject difficult to grasp. This book was purchased for my 7-year-old (He's a bit advanced) and he loves it. The book has been in our home less than 24 hours and it's been read cover-to-cover and then skipped through to catch the highlight reel.The book is highly informative, accurate, and presents things in a highly approachable manner all without being condescending to the young reader/scientist.The only gripe I have with the book is the lack of colour. But then again, what a great excuse to get out the coloured pencils and talk about each drawing and the science therein.

a 6, 9 and 45 year old reading it together and all of us love it. My 6 year old was playing a game after where he was Cyanobacteria and his sister was sulphur eating bacteria. It is not light on the science, just explains it in a fun way. That makes it a great book to go back to again and again.Jay Hosler, if you are reading this, please write more NF science GNs. This is a terrific book for young teens up to adults who want to learn evolution by natural selection and the history of life on earth. It uses clear language to explain evolution in a medium-detailed way, breaking the subject up into chapters that a young knowledge-seeking mind can grasp. Having read more than half of the "Suggested Readings" at the end, I can say that list can take the reader deeper into the marvels of evolution.

Purchased for my son who enjoyed it immensely.The depiction of the story in this format (cartoon sketch) encourages kids who might not like to read, to learn in a fun way.

The line on the front that says "every science classroom should have this book" is 100% accurate. Perfect mix of dad jokes and hardcore science, plus illustrations that help kids understand complex topics. I teach in Baltimore, MD and my kids LOVED it.

The idea of the book was ok but the print was so hard to read. With all the fancy terminology, I would have liked to have seen stronger print against the background. Personally after looking at all those terms, I like the Creation story much better. And God said...and it was good. I did like the examples.

The best introduction to evolution I've ever seen. Gives a good sense of the theory with general concepts and specific examples. Very clear, accessible, and engaging. Good for children and adults.

An excellent piece to read. Informative and factually correct. The author would be a wonderful teacher. Lucky students,I would have given 5 stars had the images been in colour. Had there been an option of 4.9 stars, I would have given that.

C'est vraiment une bonne BD scientifique, avec un très bon scénario : l'évolution sur Terre expliquée sur une planète où l'intelligence est apparue chez des... concombres de mer (où plutôt leurs descendants). L'ensemble est rigoureux, et fait appel aux dernières découvertes. On y croise aussi les portraits de nombreuses célébrités de la biologie de l'évolution.L'anglais utilisé est facile à comprendre, l'ensemble est vraiment très bon. Nombreux sont les professeurs qui en connaissent moins que ce qui est expliqué dans ce remarquable ouvrage !On ne peut que déplorer l'absence de toute traduction en français (si l'éditeur nous lit, je suis disponible.;-)
