Product Description Written and directed by Mackenzie Crook, 'Detectorists' follows friends Andy and Lance who find common ground as part of the Danebury Metal Detecting Club. Contains all 18 episodes plus the 2015 Christmas Special.Subtitles: English Synopsis Featuring all three series along with the Christmas Special, Mackenzie Crook and Toby Jones are Andy and Lance, two friends who find common ground as part of the Danebury Metal Detecting Club. Their dream is to find a buried treasure that will change their lives. But while they search for the past, they must also deal with the present. Series One finds Andy trying to keep his head above water with his partner Becky (Rachael Stirling), while Lance tries to win back his ex-wife, from the local take-away pizza manager. Both of them face an invasion of their turf by rival detectorists the Antiquisearchers. Series Two takes place a year down the road from where we last left Andy and Lance, both of whom are still tripping over emotional molehills in search of the great ‘find’; and the DMDC are on a mission to track down a long-lost WW2 bomber – followed closely by ‘Simon’ and ‘Garfunkel.’ Series Three sees Andy and Becky moved temporarily into the house of her mother (Diana Rigg) while Lance is trying to kickstart his relationship with a new girlfriend – not helped by the re-appearance of his exwife. Meanwhile the friends’ search for gold continues as they face challenges old and new. Review: An all-time great comic drama - This show, all 3 series, is near on damn perfect. It follows in the footsteps of great comedic dramas such as Porridge, Auf Weidersehn Pet and The Beiderbecke trilogy and that means that the writing is about characters and that the characters are fully realized on screen. Mac Crook has delivered scripts that allow a fantastic cast to bring to life the DMDC and their interactions with the outside world. Lovely music, beautiful photography and hands-off direction from Crook make this a British National Treasure for sure. Those clamouring for a fourth series are perhaps missing the point. The real injustice is that there isn't enough content of this quality being made for television. I will be watching this complete set for years to come. Review: Found any gold? - Found any gold? Hahaha, they say,one after the other...the answer is YES ! In this series . A gentle style of comedy and they don't ever take the Mick out of the metal detectorists they are portraying in this series. The style of the production is classy and comfortable, and special mention to the CGI team, check out the magpies, sheer BRILLIANCE. Great acting and scripts , top notch all the way. I imagine it's quite close to how detectorist clubs and their little get togethers are. A very funny series. Love it, give it a look if it pops up on TV again, I'm sure you'll love it!

Ordinary people, Extraordinary series
Watching this is like watching University Challenge on a night when you know all the answers! (viewers of the series will know what I mean) Reviewers have already mentioned the superb script, the great cast, the beautiful cinematography, but for me the crowning glory is how Mackenzie Crook blended the whole thing together creating what was obviously a labour of love for him. It's choc full of quirky, zany characters, my particular favourites being Bishop, Russell and Sheila, but then again it seems a bit unfair to have favourites when they're all superb. Of course at the core of the series is the brilliant Toby Jones, and obviously Mackenzie Crook (who did everything in creating this series except perhaps make the tea, although I wouldn't be surprised if he did that too!) I hadn't seen this series when it initially aired, but bought the three series & Christmas special box set on the strength of reviews. Having watched the entire box set in a matter days, a strange feeling enveloped me on it's completion, almost as if I had lost some good friends. Two weeks after obtaining the box set, I'm already on my third viewing, each time unearthing hidden gems I had overlooked on previous visits. That's the type of series it is, it takes you on a journey with these ordinary people and allows you to be part of their extraordinary adventure.

So much to like and nothing to dislike
We were a little bit distraught when the last episode ended and it dawned on us that there were no more treats in store. This is great on so many levels. The script is tremendous, no wasted words and the way the plot twists and turns is a joy. The photography is superb without ever becoming overpowering. The soundtrack is perfectly pitched with little bits inserted featuring other artists. Now I'm at the end of series 3, I so much want to know what is happening now to all the characters, to see the progress on Andy and Becky's house. The amazing ordinariness of the conversations becomes a strength. We've just re-watched this - two episodes a night from start to finish. I'm sure we enjoyed it more than we did the first time round, we picked up more of the nuances and more of the references. If there were a competition to pick the best line, what would it be? My personal favourite at the moment is from Sophie, just after she's had a pint of beer poured over her by Becky. "She seems nice"

Worlds best programme.
Forget the five stars, I give it Ten. This is an absolute joy to watch over and over and over. The most time consuming programme I’ve ever seen. Absolutely everything, every detail is worth watching time and time again. There’s not one line a character says is wasted, every scene has something to get engrossed in. The theme music has led me to purchase many Johnny Flynn and Dan Michaelson cds. Even some scenes which are in the back ground steal the scene you think you are supposed to be watching. Mr Crook is a Genius. Every character is perfectly cast and played. I can’t make my mind up which one I love the most. There isn’t enough space on the internet for me to complete this review so I’ll leave it up to you to find this treasure for yourselves.

I love this series so much!
I have loved this series from the get go and now I have the chance to watch it whenever I wish and share with others. There are so many aspects I love about the episodes: engaging characters, who you really feel an investment in; beautiful English countryside; gentle wry humour which revels in the eccentricities of the characters and their situations; beautiful lyrical music. Mackenzie Crook has such insightful, subtle observations about people and there are also many, many incredibly funny moments. You never feel the characters are being mocked, but rather you warm to them as the treasure of their lives and loves are unlocked. I hear Mackenzie may do another series if he gets a good idea. I hope he does as I am totally in love with this series.

Simon and Garfunkel Reborn
An exceptional show about friendship and the calm, meditative hobby that is metal detecting.

This was a great gift - Detectorists is a really sweet, gentle comedy that wears its heart on its sleeve. IT might star Mackenzie Crook but don't go thinking it's like the Office. It's just a small, slice-of-life show set in the wild green fields of England (and under them), mostly about two mates as they natter back and forth to each other, navigate the complications of life, and try to find ancient pieces of gold. It's a well-written, funny show, but not in the vein of most modern comedies where the laugh is always at someone's expense. Instead it's much more situational and full of characters you'd love to have as friends.

I rarely give five stars, but I was so sad to see Detectorists end that I would have been very happy to immediately start watching it all over again. It's a gentle, quirky, funny, realistic, affectionate story without overdoing any of its aspects. The outdoor photography is absolutely beautiful. And everything ties up nicely at the end. To my mind, it's just perfect. It's officially about a group of metal-detector hobbyists, and we frequently see them out detecting (which I'd like to try!), but the show is more about them as people and their dealings with their friends and family. We bought it because of the good ratings and also because we had liked several of the actors in other things. It was especially interesting to see Mackenzie Crook play such a different (pleasant) character from Gareth in The Office, and to see Toby Jones play such a different (decent) character from Culverton Smith in Sherlock. (Please note that it's a Region 2 DVD, so will not work with US-only players, but we have a Region-free player.)
