The equipment is fine but the instruction manual is a nughtmare to any normal human being..I have studied it for several hours and still do not fully understand the instructions.I ge,t the message that the gear is suitable for one piece or sectional doors, but the numbering of illustrations etc I find very confusing.I will need someone to guide me in the right and wrong ways to install what looks like a very efficient piece of gear. Or perhaps someone can just point me to the right pages/sedtions, to install my door, which is a heavy timber door clad on the outside with UPVC boarding.The door is well balanced and has been in operation with Stanley door gear for 28 years. Now it is just worn out, or I would not have bothered to change. Fitting that gear was a simple job, as the manual was written clearly and easy to read and understand. By comparison this one is like trying to read Chinese.

I purchased a Hormann Supramatic E BiSecur Garage Door Opener/Operator Series 3 to fit a Series 2000 door and fitted it at the weekend.I thought it would take 2 to 4 hours. It took 8 hours.1) The packaging was dreadful. The drive unit ended up in the other half of the box contacting the bag of hardware. This had marked the drive unit. The box just had a layer of bubble wrap around it. The boom was inadequately packed as well, with one off the mounting strips bent inwards and would not fit the bracket. Fortunately, I managed to bend it back.2) The top holes on the door bracket needed to be drilled out as clearance holes for the fixing screws.3) The system has a design flaw. When fitted to the instructions, when the door is fully open, the link arm between the door and the boom sliding drive fouls the door support frame, that is, that part of the existing frame that is parallel with the door and connects to the back end of the door wheel tracks. Just unbelievable. This can be corrected by having the door not closing fully, or filing a clearance groove in the support frame.4) The instruction book is terrible. There is too much emphasis on the diagrams, and not enough text explanations. The German mind must work differently to the English mind. I could not understand a lot of the diagrammatic instructions. Please bear in mind I am an HND qualified Development Engineer. Also, the different door types are all mixed together. Would be a lot easier to understand if the different door types had their own complete sections. It was more luck than judgement that I managed to get the hand transmitters to work.I am still trying to get the automatic door closing to work. Would someone at Hormann please email me with text instructions please?There are far too many warnings about all sorts of obvious stuff, including warnings of door movements. I know the door will move, it's a door operator.Also, I cannot see what all the buttons are for on the hand transmitter.I wish I had bought a British product now. Probably had more chance of understanding the instructions.I bought the Hormann product as the door is manufactured by Hormann, and we tend to believe the Germans make quality products.To repeat,I am still trying to get the automatic door closing to work after a set time period following opening. Would someone at Hormann please email me with text instructions please?Also, what are all the buttons for on the hand transmitter that has 5 buttons. I use the top button for door movement, and the centre button for querying the door position. What do the other buttons do?I give it 3 stars as now it is running, it seems to do the job well, but installing and getting this thing to work was difficult, on something that should be fairly straight forward. And I still cannot understand the instructions to get other functions working, like the automatic closing.

I'm really happy with this garage door operator. It is extremely simple to fit and works quickly, smoothly, and quietly. I would happily recommend it to my friends.As has previously been commented upon, the packaging of the unit is not very good. When my first operator arrived, the box looked fine, but the operator inside was badly dented. I reported this to Online Garage Door Spares and they sent a new one straight out to me and I had it the next day. The damaged one was collected that day too, all with no fuss whatsoever. Things go wrong sometimes and they dealt with it really well.The fitting instructions are written to accommodate the fitting variations for five different door types. If you take a minute to work out which bits apply to your door and highlight them then it makes it easy to refer to when you're half way through the job.

Great product and good service

Now it is installed and operating this garage door opener is great. It is actually not that difficult to install but the instructions are complicated because they include different things depending on which type of door you are using and rather than give written step by step instructions for a particular door rely on diagrams which are difficult to understand. This is especially true when trying to program the remote controllers. I spent a long time trying to do this and the feedback from the unit seems poor. The controller has at least 4 buttons and really you only need 1. So if you have a lot of patience this is one of the best door openers you can get.

It replaced a chain driven opener, and is superior to any other opener I have seen. Simple to install, the instructions were excellentI am absolutely delighted with my purchase . Regards, Malcolm Graham
