I was going to make a sun shade/weather cover for my pool pump motor, and then I stumbled upon this. For $20, I figured I'd give it a try. It's made of plastic, but it does the job and doesn't interfere with the air flow around the motor. It effectively keeps the direct sun off of the motor, and should add some life to it over the years. It attaches to the motor housing with plastic brackets. The plastic may dry out and crack over time, but the cost is so low and is so easily installed, that I think it's worth it. The motor costs a lot more than $20. I am running a Hayward 1.5 HP single speed vari-flo pump.

I ordered this cover for our pool pump, but it is plastic (doesn’t seem very durable) and the assembly was a bit of a headache to attach the side panels.

First this is NOT universal fit and I have a generic size pool motor housing. Second you have to hammer the heck out of the side panels in to get into the slide. Third is this is an absolutely flimsy piece of junk. All of the clips broke when I tried to install it, the plastic cracked easily, and broke off and sliced my finger wide open. If you want to waste your money, time, and a trip to the hospital to get stitches, please by all means order this. I threw the broken mess in the dumpster on the way to the hospital and Amazon requires a picture of the damage to refund me, so I’m basically out $20 for the product and $400 for an urgent care visit and stitches.

Simple design, Easy to assemble. Fits my pool pump perfectly. Living in Florida, the sun takes a toll on pretty much everything, including motors. My pump is not shaded so it is in the sun all day long, this cover helps it run cooler and last longer by not having the sun directly on it, and it also protects from rain.I would buy this item again.

I’m not sure what this is designed to fit, but it sure didn’t fit my pump. It comes with some plastic brackets which didn’t help at all. I ended up putting it over the pump motor and using wire ties to hold it in place. It’s been on there for about a month and still staying in position. Mostly protects the motor from intense florida sun, and some of the rain. I figure it’s probably a little better than nothing, and worth a shot if you are willing to have this not fit very well.

As others have mentioned, it was tight to put together but a little WD-40 or dish soap helped the pieces slide together much easier.The clips that hold it onto the pump seem a little small as most pumps are a standard size but after I cut out one corner for the electrical cable, it fit fine and happy with the end result.Should last and provide good protection.
