Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird The Movie / Tribute Tour [DVD]

As a fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd i added this buy to my collection. Good stuff of the original setup.

I was 16 when I seen them in DIEGO just before their plane went down. Most of the footage here is from their concert in England. They were there with the Rolling Stones and a whole bunch of other bands in that time. ARE THERE ANY OF YOU out there that actually went to this concert and can share your review? Like all them pretty girls at the California concert when they played 'Free bird'? Any of you still alive or what? This is the REAL' DAZED AND CONFUSED' bunch here and probably the ones that will be buying this disc with no questions asked. It appeared that the kids at the England concert were pretty wore out from the previous bands or they were coming down off their high. Some were rocking out but it just seemed that they were not sure about this kind of music. Sort of like 'Damn' this is how they do it in AMERICA. You also get some footage from their last album before Ron died. 'That smell' "CRY FOR THE BADMAN", 'What's your name'. Back when I traveled in the mountains I purchased a bunch of their cassettes and man those tunes were something. I also got to party up with some Ozark folks and we blasted a Skynyrd album on the porch of a small house deep in the Ozarks in Missouri and had some BUSH BEER and a bottle of JACK DANIELS TENNESSEE mash.These guys looked like members of the 'BLACK OAK ARKANSAS' group. I had the Chili Peppers lead singer look back when he first came out. I was also 16 at this time. This is for the folks that lived this or just flat out enjoy the Skynyrd. I also use a pair of nice head phones in the neighborhood of 200 bucks and it gets real good here. Does not matter the audio quality when you got 200 buck phones. I also play it on my HD TV and still sounds great. I lived this stuff so it does not matter. Great history of a great band.

I bought this VHS tape expecting a movie about the band, that is not what Freebird The Movie is. What you get is some incredible video tape of the band in various concerts from dates in 1976 to 1977. Most of the tape is from an Open Air Rock show that Skynyrd played in England. While most of the tape is in color, there are some parts that are in black and white, believe it or not that does not really detract from this film. The band plays 15 songs on this tape, they are as follows: Workin For MCA, I Ain't The One, Saturday Night Special, Searching, What's Your Name, Whiskey Rock-A-Roler, Travelin Man, Gimmie Three Steps, That Smell, Gimmie Back My Bullets, Cry For The Bad Man, Call Me The Breeze, T For Texas, Sweet Home Alabama and Freebird of course. The song Simple Man plays as the credits roll. There are interviews with band members (live and dead) family and frynds between most of the songs. While this tape does not tell the history of Lynyrd Skynyrd the band (for that look for the VH1 Behind The Music episode) or the terrible accident that happened to them on that October day 1977 it does catch them in all their splendor, both tragic and glorious all at once. There is indoor BW footage taken from New Jersey and from San Francisco, CA. The outdoor open air footage from England and from A Day On The Green in Oakland, CA is wonderful, flawless footage with spectacular sound. The segment from Oakland was filmed only 2 months before the crash, it will make you cry...be warned. From comparing the England footage against that of Oakland it is clear America has better looking girls (even in 70's duds) and better dentists. Two of the three surviving members have reformed the band and added Johnny Van Zant, Rickey Medlock of Blackfoot fame and one of the founders of the band The Outlaws...the Three Guitar Attack Lives! Let hope that the future for Lynyrd Skynyrd is filled with as much good fortune as the past was filled with bad fortune. Good film a steal at this price.

Freebird "the Movie": This is an excellent documentary and concert DVD of "pre-plane crash" Lynyrd Skynyrd at their very best. It was premeired at Atlanta's Fox Theater where this version of Skynyrd played and recorded a concert there. The documentary gives an excellent history and story of the band up until the plane crash. It contains interviews of the members of the band at the time, and by family members. The concert portion has excellent footage of Skynyrd playing before an outdoor crowd of 250,000 people in England. The "three guitar" performances by Gary Rossington, Allen Collins, and Steve Gaines are awesome. This is a piece of Rock and Roll history well worth having. Words just can't describe how good it is. The performance of "Freebird" at an outdoor venue in Oakland is awesome. The documentary ends with the band boarding their plane, being on the plane, and shows the plane taking off. It leaves us wondering "what might have been?". The Tribute concert tour is narrated by Charlie Daniels. Ronnie Van Zant's daddy "Lacy" is the MC. The footage from this tribute tour Rocks also. It is history of the post-crash Skynyrd reforming and starting over. Johnny Van Zant (Ronnie's little brother) sings the vocals. This new version of Skynyrd has evolved into the current version of Skynyd that is still performing and touring today.

For a Skynard fan it's just the best. Brilliant footage of the band in what looks like an outside area with the local kids listening on. Fantastic footage of Old Grey Whistle Test and even better was the Knebworth concert which could have been yesterday, fantastic.The bands friends and families gives a real insight into their personalities. Footage of what has been happening with the band since the very sad and tragic plane crash.I will happily recommend this DVD for anyone wanting to find out about Lynyrd Skynyrd from beginning until now. 昔のライヴ映像と、現在のライヴ映像の二本立て。個人的には昔の映像が好きだが、現在のレイナードも実力者揃いの良いラインナップだ。昔の映像はインタビューも含まれていて、ライヴを純粋に観たい人には邪魔になるかも。しかしライヴ映像自体は昔のレイナードが感じられ良いライヴです。
