The Cloth Paper Scissors Book: Techniques and Inspiration for Creating Mixed-Media Art

This book is full of wonderful ideas and techniques and is everything I hoped it would be. It is packed with inspiring examples of various artists' work set out as a series of projects with straightforward working instructions. Of course these need not be followed to the letter and can easily be adapted for more personal results. I seldom buy books which I haven't been able to look at first, but this time I took a chance and it certainly paid off.

Lots of inspiring extracts from the magazine. If you've got all the back issues you won't need this book but if you wanted to dip in and see if you like it it's well worth it. It introduced me to new techniques and has some very interesting projects.

I have gone through this book which arrived this morning and it is just what I wanted. Being interested in many craft things means that to subscribe to specialist magazines would cost a fortune so a book like this is a Godsend as it has many various articles from an array of artists in the mixed media field. I am fairly new to mixed media and every new book I acquire seems to require me buying a whole new lot of threads, papers and so on which makes my husband turn an alarming shade of red and I am afraid this book is no different. I have already seen a number of techniques I would really like to try but I see a whole new load of purchases coming up - still, he is saving on the magazine subscriptions so that's OK isn't it...... There are two wonderful articles, from my favourite artist Beryl Taylor (her recent book is a dream and I go through it constantly) - the metal magic article is particularly interesting - a purchase of metal embossing sheets is next on my list. I would definately recommend this book to someone who, like me, doesn't want the bother and expense of subscribing to a load of magazines but is interested in exploring the world of mixed media through the work and techniques of a number of top artists in the field.

Love love love this book. Bought couple of the magazines(when I could find them) and then couldn't find anywhere that sold them.so when I saw this book for sale I couldn't resist!and honestly I have not been disappointed at all.lots to read,loads a pics to drool over. Paid m.r.p for this (I usually buy pre owned) and even paying full whack I'm as pleased as punch. Lots of unusual projects to keep me busy for the foreseeable future.

This is a good book to spark off ideas and to inspire you to start in mixed media. Clear lists of items needed for each procedure.

A book to inspire and to develop skills. The script and illustrations give freedom to take yourself on a creative adventure.

Too much chat and not enough examples of some actual work produced by the techniques to give more inspiration - picture is worth a 1000 words!

Very interesting and informative book. I am new to mixed media and had borrowed this from the library. Renewing it 3 times !

The book is excellent; I couldn't put it down. I understand it is a compendium of the best articles from the magazine, "Cloth, Paper Scissors". I have been trained in traditional art; and after making jewelry for a few years, I decided to get back into painting art (in addition to making jewelry). I first decided to see what art journaling was all about and was overwhelmed by the wonderful mixed media techniques that were being used. One time when I was painting a huge watercolor of a macaw, I used a teeny bit of opaque paint in place of the transparent watercolor to block out an error. It was hung in a prominent gallery. However, if they knew I used the opaque paint, I would have been barred from hanging it. So, getting back to the book, it opened my eyes to current uses and some "how to's" of mixed media. The how-to instructions are not very detailed yet give you a good idea of what to do. The consistent message is that there are no rules -- just your freedom to choose.

After perusing all the pages of the book, several times over, I decided to jump right in and begin. One project inspires another, and the diversity of all the projects in this book, springboard the artist/crafter/calligrapher into even more exciting projects. I have even mailed a couple of booklets made from this book, to friends. I am taking so much from Cloth Paper Scissors Book, that I can't believe I paid such a modest price for so much return.
