Excellent product, couldn't ask for more...
Well-made of durable material, nice color...birds love it. As long as I keep the squirrels away, I will have it for years!

Best feeder for woodpeckers
Sturdy, easy to fill, best for woodpeckers because they prop their tail against the board. We have woodpeckers at the feeder every day.

Can take a part to clean as often as needed, big plus!
I have 2 types of woodpeckers, one small and one medium. In hopes of getting a 3rd local kind at some point, I decided to buy the larger one that fits one or two suet cakes in at a time. So far, I am just using 1 suet cake at a time as I have only seen Downy Woodpeckers eating. I bought WoodPecker suets (not the cheapest but a box of what seems to be good quality) - they are loving it - I have 2 Downys eating daily. I only knew I had one Downy until today (3 weeks after putting out feeder with suet for first time). I have changed suet once and it is easy peasy. This is going to be easy to clean as the sides slide out and the roof slides up (clean or change out suet). I am beyond happy to see my feathered friends using it and even some other small sparrow has been eating at it every day. I highly recommend.Esp if you have or want to attract larger or Pilated Wookpeckers. They use the bottom to put their tail against and eat at an agle (for those who are new to Woodpecker eating habits, like I am new to it). I like that this is recycled material and they have not damaged it. It looks like wood. I am very pleased. Might buy another if I get more resident or passing through Woodpeckers after a while. YEAH!

Squirrels can chew it up but great suet feeder otherwise
I love everything about this suet feeder except one thing. I love that it is made of recycled materials, and that the materials it's made of are waterproof and won't come apart or warp. What isn't so great is that when squirrels can reach it, they can and will chew it in such a way that the metal mesh on the sides will slide out and it will be useless. My first one lasted a few years before it was chewed so badly it fell apart. The second one I got, the squirrels chewed it up within 2 weeks. If you have your feeders somewhere that squirrels can't get to it, then this is for you. If not, maybe consider one that will last even if they chew on it.

A nicely designed, quality feeder
I hesitate a little to write a review of a product before I've had it very long, but I'm going ahead here because it's hard to imagine issues arising down the road.... I purchased this feeder two weeks ago because I wanted something the larger woodpeckers would have an easier time with. I thought it would take a while for the birds to accept it, but a downey woodpecker was using it within an hour. The downey had also been using our traditional little wire "cage" that I'd hung from a deck railing, but the squirrels also had easy access to the suet in it and were going through the cakes pretty quickly. A month or so ago, I suspended the smaller feeder on a bent coat hanger hung from a metal arm that extended from the deck railing... this effectively kept the squirrels away, but was a little awkward for the birds because of all the swaying movement - and the cage was still small for the larger birds. So.... I've now hung this new feeder in the same manner (see photo). It's much more stable, and still no squirrels. That hanging platform at it's base provides a surface for larger woodpeckers to brace themselves with their tails. The result, for me, is that our resident red-bellied woodpecker visits the suet much more often than he did before. Time will tell if it ever attracts our pileated woodpeckers, which would be great (if they leave the house alone!). In any case, I really like the design of this feeder and the look and feel of quality.... made of recycled materials.... in the USA.Update 3 weeks later: Still couldn't be more pleased with the feeder... and I have a "plus" to add... I just discovered today, in taking down the feeder to clean it for the first time, that the two wire mesh pieces that support the suet are very easily removed for cleaning - they simply slide up and out of the feeder. This makes maintenance of this product very easy. What a great design.Update after 3 months: Still love the feeder. I wanted to comment that the arrangement I've used (see photo) has continued to be a very effective squirrel deterrent, despite the fact that we have lots of them. Once in a while, one will climb to the top of the metal arm that's attached to the deck, but then quickly give up on the idea of reaching the feeder. No squirrel has ever touched the suet.

It’s a beautiful idea but someone doesn’t know how to measure.
I was expecting to use this to feed my pileated woodpeckers their big 2 inch cakes but this alleged 3” cage can only hold the little thin cakes as the cage is just the standard cheap ones you get at the dollar store. They went to such a great effort to do such wonderful craftsmanship on the wood, roof, finish and color but then they slapped a cheap $1 cage on it for the cakes, why? It’s like it was an after thought of “oh we need to do something with this now, here put this on”. Why did they say it was 3 inches? I guess nobody in the world can tell the truth any longer. That was always the nice thing about brick and mortar you could see the items, measure it yourself and know if it was going to work BEFORE you plopped down money. I wish Amazon or third parties would do validation or QA some of this stuff so the facts were correct.

Squirrels are making short work of the plastic
Squirrels are chewing through the plastic that holds the grate. I’ll have to add reinforcement.

Well made
Love this feeder. Large enough for a Red Bellied Woodpecker to be on one side while a Hairy Woodpecker is on the other side. Well made.
