You’ll need a lot of these….
I’m an avid scuba diver, and the Subnado is a game changer. Mounted with the (optional, extra cost) tank bracket, it’s an awesome—and powerful—tool. And fun! BUT, they’ve got an issue with the thumb controllers. I have four Subnados, and the thumb controllers on all of them have failed. The unit itself has a one-year warranty, but the thumb controller’s warranty is only six months. It seems like they haven’t perfected the seal on the controller plug, and despite greasing the o-rings regularly, the little connector pins keep getting green oxidation, and then the controller stops working. It’s just a matter of time. Their warranty service is pretty good (Arts is super friendly and responsive), but lately their auto-reply e-mail says it’ll take some time, since they’re very busy with after-sales warranty work. Probably not a great sign…. In summary, great product with a seeming defect that requires regularly buying $35 replacement controllers. Hopefully they can fix it soon. Seems like they must be aware of it since for the new Subnado Plus, they advertise it as having better waterproof connectors.

Instantly failed
I looked at the connection point where it splits from 1 to 2 wires and thought, this doesn't look waterproof. It looks like 4 small screws holding plastic to plastic...Within 5 minutes it had water in it and was causing the motors to go haywire. Have these guys ever heard of silicone?

. I'm very disappointed.
Very poor quality. This is my second cable. I've only been using it for five days and it no longer works. I'm very disappointed.

Garbage
I am very disappointed in this product as it never worked even when brand new. I should have returned it but now it's too late to do so : (

Expect to buy controllers continually!! They are junk!!
I strongly advise scuba divers to steer clear of the Subnado scooter. Its thumb controllers are erratic and unreliable—sometimes powering the unit on unexpectedly, shifting gears at random, refusing to turn off, or simply failing altogether. Imagine attempting a controlled ascent while the unit unexpectedly kicks into third gear or changes speed mid-dive. I own two units, mostly for shallow beach dives, with the scooters mounted on my tank. When the controllers malfunction, there’s nothing one can do except hang on since they are out of reach on tank. Even if you can reach them, the scooter may keep running despite the main power switch being turned to the "off" position. I’ve repeatedly contacted customer support about these controller issues. Their latest response? That they've supposedly made “drastic improvements” over the past 2–3 years. Yet they express no concern over the fact that I’ve had to keep replacing controllers—or about the safety risks these faults have imposed while they were supposedly improving their product. Support usually just replies with “out of warranty” or “try this or that,” which is not helpful. Consider this: Subnado has nearly 20% one-star reviews on Amazon—and that includes buyers beyond the diving community. Just this month, I had to shell out another $120 for three more controllers. We'll see if they end up in my bone pile of 5 defective controllers (see pic). My bottom line: I wouldn’t trust these on dives deeper than 25 feet, based on my experience. These scooters can ruin even shallow dives. Update Nov 2025: 2 of the 3 extended controllers bought in Aug have already failed and these are supposed to be the new improved version!
