Fifty famous stories retold

Historically Inaccurate
This book is okay. Occasionally the stories are interesting for my 6 year old. The big issue is many of the stories are tall tales about real historic figures without being identified as such (“George Washington and the Hatchet”) or honestly insulting -“Pocahontas” is actually mostly lavishing praise on John Smith, instead of even going into the folk stories we tell about her.Going into the truth would be too much to expect from this book, but making her story about how brave and strong John Smith was, when the very title is *her* name, seemed absurd. So far, we haven’t seen any stories about women at all. I’m not saying there needs to be complete equality, but this is a book completely full of men and their stories, which is something to take note of.

A story a day or a week.
Great table side book to read a story a day or a week…

Audible doesn’t sync with book
If you purchase the audible version to go with the print book, know that the stories are not in the same order. Because the audible book compiles a number of stories into each chapter, it is impossible to find the stories you’d specifically like to hear. If you’re trying to read and listen stories that fit with specific points of history or skip specific stories that are dated, the audiobook will not help you do this.

We love these wonderful stories. Many my daughter remembers from Story of the World (:

this book is a lie!
Buyer Beware! The James Baldwin who wrote this book is NOT the James Baldwin referred to in the introduction and the cover copy of this book.

Beautiful
The Living Books Press edition of this book is beautiful. Sturdy cover, reminds me of the classic Penguin books. Feels like a quality book that will last thru many readings. We read aloud a lot (1000+ picture books a year). The stories were so engaging that even my 3yo sat thru them.

Excellent quality! I'm using this book as part of ...
Note: I always forget that Amazon lumps all the reviews of the same book together, no matter the edition. My review is specifically regarding the Living Book Press edition.Excellent quality! I'm using this book as part of my homeschool year. So many reprinted public domain books use OCR and are full of errors; this one was obviously put together with care and attention to detail. As an Ambleside Online user, I appreciate that the editor rearranged the stories in the order they are used throughout the school year.

Excellent reprint!
Living Books Press puts out such high quality books, I just want all of them! It’s also so helpful that the story order coincides with Ambleside Online’s curriculum. I’m just pre-reading for year one right now but love these stories so much and often read them aloud for my older sons. Some of the reviews for this book are for other versions.People need to pay attention when they’re leaving reviews.

Very adventurous short stories, creatively written. You can read along like you are part of a real life drama. I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to others. Thank you

Review of yellow and orange book
These are time-tested stories. My kids have really enjoyed them.I was looking for a hard copy with illustrations after we read a free ebook version that had no pictures. Because Amazon groups all the reviews for different copies together, it was not clear to me that the edition I purchased was not illustrated, as other reviews mentioned illustrations. The cover with a funky orange and yellow pattern is just text, no illustrations.

Wow, we love this book! It's short chapters that are easy for the kids to follow but SO well written. The kids and us parents love this book and the amazing stories we learn from it!
