Yes, you can check in the app to see if the door is locked or unlocked you can also receive notifications if someone attempts to open the lock or when a user successfully opens the lock. I have used this feature while out shopping in town or on vacation at the beach.

Does this lock senses if the door left open?

The unlocked status is displayed on the app and can be locked via the app. However, leaving the door open to the outside is not a detectable function..
