Thumbs up. This pull starter worked perfectly on my 40 year old Honda HR214 mower. The new unit has 6 bolt holes; my old one had 3. It fit anyway. The rotating pawl in the center was a completely different design compared to my old one; but the new one worked anyway. Pull the rope, and the engine spins. I was surprised how much easier it pulled than the old one - I guess the old pull starter had built up a lot of friction in 40 years. Replacing the assembly took all of 5 minutes.

When this product first arrived, it seemed like it was quality made, and would solve my issue in needing a replacement for my WP30 gas water pump. The entire mechanism fits perfectly and installed in seconds, as advertised. Even the first pull was perfect. The pump started immediately, and the cord retracted.After vibration of the pump disconnected the spark wire from the magneto, the pumped stopped. I was unaware of this issue at first, and attempted to pull the starter again. After about 4 pulls, the cord would no longer retract. The ratchets in the mechanism had become jammed in the ratchet guide and the gear on the end of the motor. I attempted to dislodge them with a screwdriver, but that did not work. After removing the entire assembly, the ratchets simply fell out of the pull starter.If the ratchets had been made of metal like the original pull starter had, this would not have been an issue. The cheap plastic used in the ratchets is not suitable for something with the compression of a several horsepower motor. If you are considering this product, think very carefully about its application. This is not a product intending to be long-lasting and durable. It may start your product, but you will be back in the same boat in short order.

Like Maple man reviewer, I had to drill holes on the engine cowling to be able to put it in place, not perfect but it works. I also added some JD welding to secure it more, never know. It kinda worked but when starting the engine the pawl had not so much grip to turn the engine, thanks to this starter recoil thin metal I was able to simply knock on the casing to make the pawl go deeper and grip better to spin the engine and now starts like perfectly.
