Beautiful art and fantastic story! Ram V hits again!
After reading many of Ram V’s other works (Layla Starr, blue in green, swamp thing, aquaman, rare flavors) I had to give his Detective run a try and 4 issues in I am loving it. Only wish the rest of the run was available in trade but I might get single issues to avoid the wait as I’m fully invested now and want to finish the run.

Something old
A good spooky tale. I do prefer the old format of the Detective Comics where they put all the parts of the main and mini story separate. So I could read all the parts of the main story, then they fit the mini story (all together) in where it is appropriate.Gotham has changed.Batman feels something is wrong with him. Something is a little off. Is it the enviable effects of father time, or is it something darker and primal inside himself. However something old is coming to Gotham. What does it want and who will be corrupted. Old enemies or allies will reappear. The book is done well with interesting stories, and the spooky artwork fits perfectly with the tone of the book. I can't wait for the next part. The book finishes with a varient cover gallery and a sketchbook.

Comic knap
Onvoorstelbaar.

Absolute rubbish
I can’t believe that the reviews for this are mainly positive. Perhaps people have lowered their standards out of desperation for a new Batman comic. I have read many Batman and Detective Comics books, seen many different styles in both the writing and the art. So it’s with confidence that I say that this book is one of the absolute WORST I have ever had the misfortune of wasting money on.First of all, the art is horrendous. The main storyline following Bruce Wayne is pretty bad (scratchy, boring, questionable action poses that make no sense when fighting etc.), but the drawings - and I use the term loosely - on the Jim Gordon side story look like they belong in a preschool art class. The text is another thing that was difficult to read. It looks like formal typewriter font, which isn’t suitable for a comic book, unless it is being used to represent written text - and it’s not. In addition to that, there is a LOT of text in Gordon’s story. This text is pasted over naked paper with no comic panel beneath it. In other words, no drawings. If I had wanted to pay for a bulk of text, I would have bought a novel. The story itself is boring. Very, very dull and pretentious. It leads you to believe it is going somewhere, but it ends up stating nothing by the end of this volume. What is also boring are the additional characters that have been thrown into this train wreck. Boring, cliche, boring. The characters are given long-winded speeches and often phrase their thoughts in what the author hopes will pass off as ‘poetic’ but actually comes across as cringe-worthy instead. Nobody talks/thinks like that, least of all Jim Gordon. There are average Batman stories, good Batman stories, and excellent Batman stories. This one is so far down there that I don’t even want to waste shelf space on it. Huge disappointment.
