Pleasant Surprise
Given the many non-novel books that have come to be available over the years dealing with some aspect of Star Trek, I initially expected this book to just join the group in an inauspicious way. To my surprise, I found this book to be one of the most interesting Star Trek books I have ever read, and I have many. To realize just how many aspects of technology can trace their roots to Star Trek is amazing. I have now come to believe that it is possible, that at some time in the future, scientists will actually learn how to dematerialize a person and transport that same person to a totally different location. To think that Gene Roddenberry created "transporters" as a cost-saving measure so that they would not have to constantly show the Enterprise landing on or taking off from a planet's surface. After you finish reading this book, you will be highly impressed as to all of the technology described in the Star Trek world that has made it into our world or is on the verge of getting there. If you are truly a fan, this is a must read.

Star Trek Treknology by Ethan Siegel
I purchased the hardcover version of "Treknology: The Science of Star Trek" hoping to get an informative story of this wonderful future deep space exploration TV series, and I was not disappointed. The book includes full color photos from the Star Trek series on every page (216 pages), and a biography of the author, Ethan Siegel, Ph.D., professor of Physics and Astronomy (among other endeavors). The Contents of the book includes: 1) Starship Technology; 2) Weapons and Defense; 3) Communications; 4) Computing; 5) Civilian Technology; 6) Medical and Biological, a Conclusion: "Make It So", and also an Index, and the author's photo/biography. Absolutely wonderful book - worthy of display on your coffee table, or by your reading chair. But don't loan this book out to a friend! You'll never see it again.

a variety of technologies
This book is a commendable job covering most of the major technology areas of star trek and current technology, which is compared to that. I am wishing that it would include mention of ship borne sensors, but that is not in it, even though it would be basic to their traveling ability.

The physical theory of Star Treck space navigation method
Explanation of other technical matters seems good. However, the explanation of the physical viewpoint about the interstellar navigation theory described in this book is weak.A description like the following journal (JSAER: Journal of Scientific and Engineering Research) paper below is expected."Theoretical Consideration of Star Trek’s Space Navigation" Page No. 202-215.

Interesting Read
Covers a wide range of topics related to the Star Trek Universe. A little dry sometimes but very interesting.

What will sci fi pop culture inspire next?
Super detailed and if you’re a Star Trek lover like me, you will find the writings of Ethan Siegel easy to read and it flows well, naturally. Definitely a must have for any science fiction or technology lover.

OMG yes!! Trek-Fan Win!
As a huge Trek fan, I am always wondering what the science really is - behind the star trek sciences. Here's your answers! It has everything from phasers to transports (page 45) and it doesn't look like transporter technology will really ever happen, in reality. The science is insane and I am grateful for this excellent book! Definitely a keeper! Live long, and prosper!

It's actually really eye opening to see just how close real science is to recreating - or rather creating for the first time in the real world - the sort of fanciful technology we've come to love in our sci-fi
Really interesting book showing an up to date picture of where we are in relation to the established Trek technologies. Some may think this is just another book talking about the fictional technology within the Star Trek universe. This is not that. It's actually really eye opening to see just how close real science is to recreating - or rather creating for the first time in the real world - the sort of fanciful technology we've come to love in our sci-fi.
