For some reason, I got shipped the older model (in the older box, not the nice box like in the images), but it still has RFID to identify what size official Nelko replacement tape is being used. You pop in the tape, press the power button twice, and it’ll auto-set the label paper roll so it prints perfectly. Because of the RFID, you can only use official Nelko paper replacements (but I read if you peel the green sticker off an empty roll and put it on a generic refill, it’ll work since it thinks it’s genuine). I have only used expensive labeler before in a work environment, so this is pretty cool to have a personal device. Instead of ink ribbons (that are expensive) it does some type of thermal printing where it burns in the text. It looks like it was printed, but it’s inkless thermal printing. It’s lighter than I expected, but it worked right out of the box. You just download the app and it’ll show you how to pair. It only took 2 minutes to download the app, register (you now have to put in an email), and pair the label maker. The app is intuitive. I was worried it would be clunky but it’s a pretty good app. It needs to be a good app, since this only works with an app, via Bluetooth pairing. You’ll make your labels on your phone or iPad, and then click don’t and it prints nearly instantly. The app works in an iPad, and that’s what I use, since I don’t want my phone to control this. I tested 10 labels in various designs and they all printed very well, in dark black text, with no blurring or light text. You can make custom labels or use templates or make a custom label and save it as a template. You can add 3 lines of text and an image/icon… and you can drag and drop things to position. You can pinch to resize or use a slider so all things are the perfect size and fit like you want them to fit and look like you want them to look. It’s pretty cool and you can make some cool custom labels for whatever you need. It’s got preloaded icons, fonts, and some templates… but you have to pay for the premium templates. It’s easy to avoid any paid content though, it’s got a little yellow label for anything that requires a subscription. I’m never going to subscribe, so I like that it’s got so many free options. You don’t need premium templates though. You can create your own and then save it as a template. Since you can custom size icons, text, and lines of text, it makes things really cool since you can put big letting at the top with smaller writing at the bottom, and have an icon for quick identification. Overall, I thought this would be “cheap” and since I was shipped an older model for some reason, it’s lighter than it should be… but it works and it works well. The app really defines these budget thermal printers. Some have terrible apps that make everything a pain, some have apps that are clunky, and some have apps that have a clean UI and pair instantly while allowing you to save templates. I got an extra roll of tape as another item, so I can use this for ages. It charges fine (but avoid fast charging), the labels are easy to peel off, if needed (and leave NO residue)… and these really are rub proof, oil proof, and they only issue I can see is long term labels eventually being rubbed clean. I was going to get a slightly more expensive one, but heard the app is good for this model so I got it since the app controls everything… and they were right. It’s a good app, a good label maker, and it works. The app defines these label makers. It does feel sort of cheap since it’s so light, but for this price, who cares as long as it works, pairs, prints reliably, and can customize labels to precisely fit your needs. Which it does. This is a great pick for a label maker. This works well and I cannot stress that when looking for these budget label makers to look at the app. The app controls everything, so if it’s a bad app it’s going to make even a great product cumbersome to use. The app rocks, is easy to use, and allows users credible customization for multi-line text, icons, resizing, having different fonts for every part of text… and really just a neat device. I’m labeling everything now! The tape is 14mm which is about 1/2 wide. I wanted 12mm… but you can just cut the label to make it smaller. It comes with little tear off labels that are spaced about .25” apart. But that makes peeling off the label easier. It is not a continuous label maker where it’s just a single strip. It’s little labels in a strip of label paper that print within the label areas, cut off, then peel to stick. I love that the labels can be removed since I use them for things that get swapped out often so I can’t have permanent labels. I was shocked at how good this thing is for the price. It just works! It pairs and prints nice, and the app is very pleasant to use. I’m glad I got this. If you are going to go buck wild on labeling, don’t forget to pick up an extra roll. It’s really good for the price and it’s cool to design labels.

I have to admit I was not expecting much with this Nelko label maker. It was way under $20 on sale an figured if it worked, i got my money's worth. Not only did it work, but it worked ideally for what I needed it for. I label painted pvc poles for an obstacle course for my Avata 2 and Neo. I have labeled my drone cases as i have several drones and cases are quite similar. I also label jump drives with music and videos. The tape that comes with it and the tape you buy for it, overall sticks well but with textured plastic, as my cases are, where it is not perfectly smooth, but has micro air pockets, so tape does not 100% seal, but it does a good job. On the pvc, it does wonderful and no issues on other items. Adheres very well overall. The labeler uses no ink, which is great as when a tape comes out, it's dry. No smears or smudges. The clear tape is hard to see on where to peel it, but other tapes I have tried are easy to peel. I read where you have to use the Nelko brand tape only as otherwise it will not advance tape properly. The tape roll has a green sticker on the side and apparently without it, it can cause issues, so don't take it off. The labeler is quite quick as the tapes are small and not alot can be written on them, but seems to be the same as other comparable labelers this size. The tape is easy to replace, but you have to be precise on setting it over the area right before the tape comes out of the labeler. If you don't go far enough, it will not work and light on labeler will be red. You go too far out, you'll possibly waste a label. When you get it just right, you'll know and the light will be green. Connecting with your phone or other device to the app is pretty simple. You need to use their app, which I had a few small issues with on just trying to figure it out. Once I got the basics, I have wasted I think 2 labels, so not too bad. It can be a wee frustrating getting all the words in the exact spot for placement on the label, but gets easier as you use it more. It has little cartoon style characters and items, different fonts, frames, etc... It is limited, but they have an ok collection for most things. I have since bought several more labels and when you buy a 3 pack, they are much cheaper than individually. I also bought the sticker maker PM-230 which is cute and works well, using the same app but with that model within the app being a little different. They do have several style of labelers and sticker labels. Both models I purchased came with free labels which seems to be a better deal and gives you a chance to play with it a little before deciding if you want more labels or different colored ones. All these go on sale, so get them on sale unless it is something you got to have now. Overall, I'm quite happy with this and the PM-230.

Just what I was looking for to label my toiletries for when I travel! The size of the labels are perfect and the Bluetooth connection from the Nelko app on my phone to the label maker was seamless! One negative I can think of is that the font isn’t as clean as I would like it to be. But it doesn’t smudge and the quality of the label seems to be pretty good so it’s not a big deal for me. Good price for a label maker. Just a heads up that this label maker is specifically for small labels which are ideal for small bottles and containers, not large ones.

Product seems to work well. No issues so far. Easy to set up and the app is user friendly. My only disappointment is that I wrapped the labels around cat5 cables and then stuck the adhesive parts to themselves in order to label the cables, and the labels popped apart within 24 hours...from being stuck to themselves! I've never had that happen with past labels so the adhesive is weak.

Edit: down to 1 star as the app does not work properly with Android 14b and the label printer is not longer usable. I bought this to use for producing some custom labels I need to attach to parcels. I held off reviewing until I used up a whole roll of labels. I like the app - makes it easy to design your own custom label designs with a mix of graphics and text. Label designs can be saved as a template for reuse. The app comes with a good selection of label templates and it's easy to add your own graphics if one of the pre-created templates doesn't quite fit. Unlike some of the other Nelko printers (like the one sized for UPS/USPS barcoding labels) the P21 appears to require the use of Nelko's specific brand of 0.59"x1.57" size labels which contain an NFC chip in the spool. I did run into an issue with the app - as it now will not connect to the printer from my phone, despite uninstalling, and reinstalling the app. I did use the support option built into the app but never heard back. When installed on another phone it connected/printed just fine so I'll need to see if going into my phone and clearing out any app data before reinstalling fixes it - I expect it is a software bug. Overall I feel it is good value, as long as the purchaser is ok with buying only Nelko-brand labels.

This label maker is one of the easiest to use. Unlike others where you have to read convoluted instructions, this one is user friendly. However, the labels are a set size, so for one word presentation, it is great. The longer the wording, the small the print. Three lines require glasses to read. Using a predesigned border decreases the size of the print too. On the app are numerous cartoon type caricatures in color and B&W that can be added to your label. The color ones print in B&W and are useless. You cannot figure out what they are. The B&W work well but decrease the size of the printing, so use with short words. Overall, I love it. But it is very limited.

Other reviews state that it's easy to use. I have been unable to print a label, in spite of several attempts. Too bad, because it's a nice size, and I had uses in mind for it. I even purchased a lovely case to store it, along with the extra labels I had purchased for it.

The Nelko Label maker has a very easy set-up and the printing is bold and clear with no smudges, however, the drawback to me is that it doesn't come with or you can't order continuous label.
