Excellent classic corkscrew with full-size useful blade + Great Seller!
A truly outstanding item. Everyone should have one in every picnic basket and camping cook kit. A timeless, durable made-in-France classic. Even without the "lever" component found on many sommelier corkscrews, this classic Opinel design still works reliably AND with the incredible Opinel INOX stainless steel full-size blade built-in as a bonus! The trick to consistent ease of use of the cork screw is: once you have screwed in the corkscrew ~70-80% down begin twisting the cork itself, wedging the screw between your index and middle fingers firmly gripping between the Opinel handle and the top of the cork while pulling slowly but firmly (sometimes it helps to wedge the bottle between your legs and tug in a firm, controlled manner). This "grip, twist and pull" method will ease-out the cork. Same technique to open wine bottles with Swiss Army knives (although I find the larger, ergonomic Opinel beechwood handle to work better). Such a classic design - I highly recommend it.

I gave this to a friend of mine as a gift and she loved it. As such I haven't had a chance to use it a ton, but we did use it to open a bottle of wine and it worked great. The wood is beautiful, the knife is sharp, and the overall construction and craftsmanship shows why Opinel is a classic. As far as the size goes, I'd say it's just right - large enough to fit well in the hand and provide a gripping surface for the corkscrew aspect, but small enough to toss into a bag/purse/picnic basket. The knife blade too is adequate for cutting snacks (cheese, some veggies, summer sausage, a bit of fruit), but would probably be a bit short for cutting steak.Overall I dig it, especially as a more rustically-styled alternative to the Victorinox Waiter or similar swiss-army knife/multi-tool.

Classic design, always sharp, and just cool looking
A friend brought me this Opinel version from France. It was my third Opinel, and I love it. This version makes for an excellent picnic knife, but it’s also stylish enough to trot out when opening wine with friends who’ve come over for dinner. I got it as a gift for an aspiring bartender, and reports he’s happy with it.The only flaw - hardly unique to this tool - is that, for my large hands, opening wine by pulling out the cork can be tougher than using a bartender’s corkscrew with a lever function. But, again, the design makes opening wine on a picnic feel like you’re just a little bit closer to France.

Great knife and corkscrew.
Since I made this purchase, I've carried it in my pocket every day. The knife is sharp and has a clever locking mechanism that does not utilize a "spring mechanism" on the blade. You have to be sure to lock the knife in open and closed positions with a twist of a metal collar to ensure the knife does not open or close unexpectedly. The corkscrew by contrast does have a springlike mechanism for locking and it works well also. I have used the knife and corkscrew daily, opening packages at the office, cutting twine, cutting random stuff like celery, and most happily, saving the day with the corkscrew when friends thought they had no way to open a bottle. It looks unique and people always ask to see it when it makes an appearance. I'm quite pleased.

Very nice knife - ?? On shipper
Very nice knife, larger then expected, but a good overall length. Not a complaint, the measurements were listed. The blade is sharp and holds an edge well. It is easy to sharpen. The corkscrew works well. I bought it for my daughter, as she often picnics on the grass by the Hollywood Bowl. This is very convenient to open wine and cut up fruit or cheese. Overall, the knife, if new, probably deserves almost a 5.Problem - the knife arrived a little smudgy - as if it had been returned and then shipped out without cleaning it. There was a very mild rust spot that I was able to wipe away. It was a good thing I had inspected it as it was a gift. Had I not cleaned it up, it would have seemed like I was regifting something or giving away a second.5 stars for the knife, 3 stars for the seller = a 4 star review.

Ok, this is a replica of a French corkscrew and chefs knife!
If you are a chef or wanna be chef and live cooking, get this. This is exactly like the corkscrew and wooden knives the French chefs use. It is gorgeous, well made, will last a lifetime and ages beautifully. What a beautiful gift for a treasured friend who loves to cook.
