RF601 thermostat easy to pair and install
Just needed the RF601 thermostat to directly replace my other faulty one. Took mins to pair up. Yes its very basic but its good value for money and works a treat. Now I also have a spare Digistat SCR for when that goes!

Good, but...
This device works OK and does the job, but:1: The base unit does not fit a standard pattress wall box. When I rang them up, a (helpful) support engineer advised screwing directly to the wall (not feasible in my case) or making up a wooden surround.2: There seems to be no way to check the current temp setting. It can only be reset by turning the dial clockwise (increase) or anticlockwise (decrease) after which the new set temp is displayed, and can then be reset to any desired value. After a short delay, the unit reverts to a display of current room temp.3: The control unit is not designed either to stand up for remote viewing, or to lie flat on its back. It is intended to be screwed to the wall. There is little point in having a remote unit fixed to a wall.4: If you can understand and use the "Preset Temperature Mode" , then perhaps you have better qualifications and experience than my physics degree and post-grad mathematics qualification, and my 40 years as a chartered electrical engineer. 5: Point 4 also applies to the manufacturer's instructions in general, which are neither logically ordered nor easily understood. The supplier has included "Quick RF Commissioning Guide" which is, I imagine, an attempt to simplify the pairing of the remote and base units. This works ok, but is no substitute for a proper comprehensible set of instructions.6: Finally, it seems to me that, (as so often happens) in the effort to save the cost of a couple of buttons, the designers have created a unit which is awkward and inconvenient to set up and use.

Easy direct replacement
Bought as a direct replacement for a failing original set which had lasted about 7 years. There is a known fault regarding the capacitor in the receiver unit which causes them to fail.I had replaced the capacitor in the original unit when it first failed but decided this time to replace the whole set up as this time the Thermostat was failing. It was very straightforward to replace with no wiring involved, just clip both items in place and once they had paired up my heating worked a treat.

Can be used as a direct replacement for an old RF1 SCR receiver
Bought this to replace a 17-year-old Digistat RF1 SCR receiver whose relay had gone on the blink (was sticking open intermittently). Screwfix Q&A said this was not a direct replacement for RF1 and that "you will have to rewire"; however my experience differs: I did not even have to change the backplate (the new one was identical) or any of the wiring (which connects to the backplate) to swap out the old SCR and install the new receiver, and my old wireless RF1 thermostat paired seamlessly with the new receiver and it's all working fine. The whole process took less than 15 minutes. Turns out I only needed to buy the receiver. The new thermostat, with the rotary dial, is a lot flimsier and cheaper feeling than the ancient one that I have, and its battery compartment is fiddly to use, hence two stars knocked off for VFM... but another one added back on as this was only 2/3 the price of the same product via Screwfix. I didn't bother trying to commission the new thermostat, but at least I now have a spare.

Simple, straightforward replacement!
This was a replacement for the same that had stopped working. Swopping over the controller was so simple and roomstat and controller paired without issue all as per the extremely straightforward instructions supplied! I would thorughly recommend these two units!

Easy fit
This was a very easy simple item to install. And just as easy to set up. I would recommend this item to anyone looking to change up to a remote thermostat.

Very basic and not recommended
This thermostat does feel solid and well made but the instructions to fit the receiver are very poor and I can find no way to register the product for a guarantee nor even mention of a guarantee. That aside, it's exactly the sort of thing an electrician would recommend and fit, secure in the knowledge that they're never going to have to use it - reliable, but not at all user friendly. The digital numbers and symbols are small and barely visible even in good light because they are not backlit, the dial is stupidly awkward to use and, despite the fact it requires batteries, it's not portable and really needs to be fixed to a wall, preferably at shoulder height so that you can operate the dial and see the tiny lcd display right in front of your eyes (assuming you've switched a light on), as it will not stand upright on any flat surface. Overall, the whole thing reminds me of British car electrics in the '70's just before the whole industry collapsed and the Japanese took over; designed and built by engineers for engineers, not the general public, and only at its best in optimum circumstances. This might be very well built (and I hope it is), but I really wouldn't recommend it to anyone as there are far more user friendly units out there for a similar price.

mode d emploi
