Stokes Beginner's Guide to Bats

Excellent quality and content
Bought this to go along with a bat house for my mother. She was absolutely delighted (a "reader") and yet it was engaging enough for non-reader family members to poke through, too.A lovely guide, much in the style of the Audubon ID books with coloration breaks for species/categories.Lovely, heavy-duty full-gloss pages that are nice and durable, the heavier-type "paperback" cover with a really nice and durable spine and "thick" amount of binding per page. Definitely high quality - and high enough quality to double check what I paid, because I would expect to pay much more for that quality, especially in a niche area and for a "beginner's" guide. It's full of images, range maps for each species, and even the odd tips to go with general information. My family is animal lovers and already knew some to a fair bit about bats (it was a "now" present to go with a "we'll work on this" bat house) but there were also things we didn't know even for the species right here in our backyards. The next time I want a "guide" to something, I will definitely turn to Stokes. This one was definitely a winner.

Beginner's Guide to Bats
This is a great companion to "Understanding Bats" by Kim Williams. There does not seem to be a whole lot of knowledge about bats, but these two small reference books will give you plenty to start recognizing them and understanding their benefits - if you know nothing else, know that bats consume their weight in bugs each night. They really are interesting and great to have around you naturally. You can do some very minor things around your house to make your area more inviting to bats, then your evenings are much more pleasant, without that that poisen smell if you handle your bug control with chemicals. I just wish we had a bat in America that flies during the day; if they could eat flies like they eat the bugs at night, my life would be just about perfect.

Good starter book on bats.
This book came as part of a bundle with a Bat box. I got them for my daughter who loves bats and wants to provide alternate homes for them just in case they need it. It is very informative, has lots of beautiful pictures and is easy to understand while still giving warnings about not handling bats and describing steps when one is encountered.

I would recommend it for anyone considering a bat house
This arrived on time and as described. I still haven't received the bat house, so I haven't put the ideas into practice. I would recommend it for anyone considering a bat house. It's enough info but a pretty quick read.

Thought it was new...
Book was scuffed and a bit dirty. Looks like it is used/read, or maybe it was just scratched up by the other item in the box because it wasn't padded properly. Either way, it looks like it's been handled before and doesn't look new.

Good little field book for the pocket - but strictly ...
Interesting little handbook which gave "basic" information about the types and locations of bats in North America. Good little field book for the pocket - but strictly for the beginner.
