Excellent film. A beautiful exploration of human emotion and the alternative life that could have been but wasn’t. It explores what it feels like to come from a place so different from where you are now and how both places are still you but only one gets truly nurtured. When you immigrate you inevitably leave a large piece of yourself behind. There is a grief in leaving behind that version of the life you could have had even when the present life is still beautiful. The ending was so perfect.

Young boy and girl in Japan ,( I believe but may be wrong on location), who are destined to be husband and wife when they grow up. Beautiful story of the young life and bond the children make. In adults life the girl comes to America to live and marry, while the young man dose not follow. They stay in touch by phone, he comes to America for a week to be with her. I could feel the painful love that still lived on in this couple! A real heart jerker. Be sure to get the English version!!! I had the original and was very sorry. I had to guess what was said, but the Acting in this movie almost Spoke for itself! I would see it again, this time with English!

Beautifully shot, perfect score. Resolutely New York. Film school signals everywhere, unfortunately. Nevertheless the movie feels remarkably grounded, even if it plays out like a filmic Portrait of the Artist as a Young Korean-Canadian Woman. I suppose you write what you know. But "inyun" (roughly translated as "destiny") can come up in everyday conversation, a little like how "karma" can also be used very casually in English, so the movie can just be viewed in the tradition of low-key slice-of-life realism about where life takes you - or doesn't. And this cast is so very natural and affecting together that you don't really register how controlled, how constructed this modest piece actually is. Many honest, wistful beats. In fact I wish it ended a minute early (you'll know what I mean when you get there). One minor caveat - I found the lead actress' voice, especially her Korean diction, extremely grating, which made it hard for me, subjectively, to fully enjoy this skillful film.

This movie was okay to me. I loved the storyline but overall I didn’t find it to be super memorable. My husband and I watched this as a date night movie and it just didn’t have enough action, comedy, relatability or even romance really to grasp our attention.

So I've been emotionally blocked for a few days, I watched this, and it cleared the blockage up. I definitely cried. This film is beautiful and refreshing, also much needed in an time where I personally feel TRULY romantic love stories in film are just not being told. The cast was really talented and there was chemistry between the main characters. It's a well-paced, relaxing but emotionally tense film. I was shouting at my laptop during the final scene- which kind of negates my comment on this being relaxing. BUT the soundtrack, the cinematography...feels quiet and cozy. I love K-drama's and this gave me those vibes but with an international spin. The writing is wonderful and if this were a book I'd read it. The film explores love while touching on spirituality with the power of one's own personal choices. A situation may be fated, but the individuals involved always have the right to choose. This is now one of my favorite films EVER.

No spoilers! I'm not going to use this review as an excuse to write my essay on Past Lives but man does this movie make me feel things. Genius directing, genius writing, genius performances. The themes keep hitting me in new and different ways with every rewatch - I think I'm on rewatch #7 now. After watching it for the first time, I left the movie theater thinking it was meh and anticlimactic (I blame the music to be honest) but the movie stayed with me so I gave it another shot and fell in love.

Ayer por la tarde me llego la película, un día antes de la fecha de entrega. Amazon siempre luciendo en ese aspecto. Por otra parte la edición es bonita, viene con su slipcover y no llego golpeada de las esquinas En temas de video, la película se ve estupenda, muy bonita fotografía llena de planos fijos pero bellos. Y que mejores planos qué la famosa Nueva York. En cuanto a la historia principal se puede decir que es simple pero funciona, te deja un lindo mensaje sobre las conexiones sentimentales qué vamos teniendo a lo largo de nuestra vida y como nos van siguiendo para siempre y nos hace preguntarnos el "qué pasaría si" todavía estuviéramos con esa persona. No será una película para todo el mundo y me la van a criticar feo, pero si te agarra en un momento sentimental si la vas a sentir.. . Y mucho

Esse filme é brutal e visceral. A cena final ficará gravada na minha memória para todo o sempre e a atuação da Greta Lee deveria ter sido contemplada com uma indicação ao Oscar de melhor atriz (no meu coração, ela saiu vencedora). Sobre o DVD, a edição é bem simples (mas boa). A imagem está ótima e o som também. O filme possui alguns conteúdos extras, como cenas deletadas, comentários e bastidores. Vou chorar muito quando for rever. Celine Song, você é maravilhosa!
