This is my go to discount knife for trimming hoof frog. Comes very sharp, but dulls quickly, so learn to sharpen your knives. Great for the price

Much easier to use than trimmers

I have been trimming my horses' hooves for about 12 years and this just became my favorite hoof knife. I prefer loop knives, and one reason I like this one is because of the shape of the handle. I find it very comfortable to use drawing the blade towards me or cutting away from me. It is easy to get the right angle and the tip of the loop does a great job on the rubbery bits that cling to the collateral grooves of the frog and on little pockets of white line. It was also great on the bars and for trimming hooks on the inside of the heel buttresses. The knife was sharp out of the box. My horses are barefoot and their frogs feel like car tires a lot of the time. They were no problem for this knife. It paired off nice, even strips of frog. I don't think you can make a knife to please everyone, but this one certainly pleases me!

Generally good build quality and materials. Working sharp out of the box, but I’ll need to go at a burr with a round file. I’d assume anyone using this tool has access to files and can handle defects like this with no great hassle. But it did cost them a point.

Other knives I’ve had have been razor sharp out of the box and I always work to keep them that way. This knife did not have a great edge on it. I’ve tried to hone it, but because of the looped knife it’s hard to really get in and get a good angle. I would buy this again, nor would I buy this style again either.

I have trimmed three horses hooves for several years now and I'm always looking for upgrades on my tools. I'm not a professional but I do feel like I and make competent trimmer with a fair amount of experience. I like having a loop knife for trimming bars on the hoof. The loop knife that I had previously was a decent quality knife but I never felt like it was very sharp, even after using a sharpener on it. This knife arrived quite Sharp and it has a nice ergonomic handle. This handle makes it easier to manage and to get better leverage when trimming the bars. I'm not sure if this knife is quality to stand up to a professional farrier but the home trimmer should be quite happy with it and it seems to be nicer than many of the other Feed Store offerings around the same price point. Those tend to be very dull and almost useless.
