Rosetta

A beautiful piece of magic.
My first close encounter with Vangelis was his legendary Albedo 0.39. I have always had a fascination with all things electronic keyboard music from its earliest days. Most of these early works from various keyboard players on the whole were mind blowing. What Vangelis did was extraordinary. He had an innate understanding of how these early electronic keyboards worked. He was able to create layer upon layer and texture to his music. Fast forward to this release. He has captured the essence of the Rosetta mission. There is a warmth of sound that takes you on the Rosetta mission. This release is beautiful and sublime.

Perfect recording for simply floating through space and time
Perfect recording for simply floating through space and time. Give your senses a treat as each track blends seamlessly into the next. He's still the master just a shame the recordings are now few and far between. He just gets better with age. Turn out the lights lay back and be gently transported through the Cosmos on the spaceship Vangelis.

Nice work Vangelis
Nice work Vangelis. Google up a few interviews about this concept behind the album - its interesting to read a little background to the Rosetta Mission. As its an EU mission it does not get the press NASA does, but some highly interesting images on the net. Shame Vangelis was not asked to do Blade-runner II soundtrack. Guess his bill was too high, so Ridley settled for a 2nd rate Zimmerman clone (alas) :-(

Excellent; let down only by poor packaging.
Vangelis's music is, as usual, magnificent - full of soaring, orchestral sounds. The content is, however, let down by the packaging. What happened to the mass-produced plastic boxes ("jewel cases")? They are - or were - readily available in any computer parts shop. The only protection this c.d. gets is a card envelope thinner than a postcard. A poor show.

Sounds Like Background Music, Far From His Best
Big fan of Mr V's 70s and 80s work, especially the Antarctica and Bladerunner era stuff, but this sounds like background music filler from a TV documentary. There are odd splashes of that classic synth string sound, but mostly it's not something you could sit and consciously listen to.

Really good,typical Vangelis
Really enjoyed this, its Vangelis for 2016. it stands up to repeated listens. Vangelis himself will never read this,of course, but,if by some off chance he does-we want more!
