Confession.... I only got these to share with my best friend who loves pimple popping videos. Not med students, but we are both nurses. What better thing to bond over than pus filled abscesses? These are gross but the joy that came across her face when she popped one for the first time was absolute gold.They look just like they do in the pictures. They feel like a soft silicone material, but I wouldn't call it "incredibly realistic" in texture or density. It does work for the purpose, though. These are unable to be popped as a pimple would be as the silicone over the dome of the abscess is thick. You have to puncture or cut into it. We used a kitchen knife to puncture it because that's what we had on hand at that moment. I do wish this had come with a basic scalpel as that would make the kit complete. The simulated pus smells like lotion. Not a bad smell at all. If you need a weird gift, here it is! Could certainly be useful for med students, as well!

These are good to teach cutting techniques for lancing small abscesses. The thickness of the silicone is a bit too uniform around the fake puss, so it isn’t exactly perfect but good for a student.
