I don't think the listing actually said, but the part that gets hot is 8" long. Which is essentially what I was looking for. The picture made it look like it was longer than most and that is what it ended up being.It needed to be longer than 6" and most of them didn't seem to be that long. I was initially hoping for 10-12 but what I've learned since I started looking is that something that long likely wouldn't be able to get enough juice to it to stay hot.I can see why in general people have said these bend and break. It isn't a fault of the device I don't think, but of the users. If you think about how it works, are aware of what you are doing, and you realize how much you cool it down while cutting, then you would realize that you shouldn't push it too far. I pushed it a little, it bent a little, I backed off a little, and let it push through as it was able. It worked just fine.Admitedly though, it did not cut as fast as I would have liked, and it styrofoam wasn't such a statically mess to cut, it would have been better to cut it for my purposes.Glad I bought it

I have used the shorter version of this product (from another seller) - have actually burned through three of them. They work beautifully. THis piece of crap though doesn't work AT All. I bought one and it didn't work. Ok I thought it was a dud...sent it back and got a replacement. Also didn't work. Will not get hot at all!! do not waste your time.

Do not buy, this does not cut through foam at all.

It did not get hot only warm. It may be that it was defective but I returned it.
