It will seal on a flange
I used this as part of a custom electric fan installation to seal the shroud to the radiator. It works well for that application and the bracketry that I made for it. However, it is important to note that this is for a wide lip rather than the narrow one found in most cars for the trunk or hatch seal. If you are looking at this for that reason, this will be loose and not attach to the car properly, so seek out one that has a tighter interface with the pinch weld.
